Chereads / Astraphobia System / Chapter 8 - Thunder from Above Part 1

Chapter 8 - Thunder from Above Part 1

After reaching the top of the walls, we could finally see the cause of our distress.

An eagle.

But no mere eagle could cause this.

It looked to be the size of a regular eagle, but it was a few kilometers away.

It wasn't covered in the black shadowy mist like the other monsters, but it had something unique.

Lightning.

Bursting from every part of the eagle.

Suddenly, I heard a familiar ding and looked toward the system screen I kept open.

[New Side Quest: Defeat the Elemental A-Class Monster, StormEater. (Reward: ???)]

Hold on hold on hold on

"ELEMENTAL A-CLASS?!"

I couldn't hold it in and blurted it out.

Everyone who heard paled immediately.

I even heard some regular knights start to run away.

The situation seems so hopeless I almost find it funny.

Even I know what that means…

An elemental monster is as strong as the class above.

So, this Elemental A-Class is as strong as an S-class.

Oh, now my legs are shaking.

As I was overcome with fear, I heard a commanding voice from behind.

"STAND STRONG"

Looking back, I saw the overlord, Furland, and the four remaining lords behind him.

The two lords from the theocracy had opposite facial expressions.

Nathan seemed unsure and scared, while Rebecca had a confident expression.

I don't know how they can be so different yet hold the same power.

Speaking of differences, Alexa from the Lurris Kingdom and Greg from the Zesian Empire are glaring at each other.

I wonder why?

Regardless, I don't know how strong they are, but they should be a great help.

While I was distracted by the lords, the monster, which I guess is called StormEater, is much closer.

The few mountains near Elderglow paled in comparison to it.

This monster was probably the size of a city.

"OPEN THE GATE! LET ME IN!"

The man begging on the outer side of the wall was a familiar face.

Benjamin, the other Zesian lord besides Greg, who was removed from the meeting by Furland.

"IT WAS ALL MY FAULT, BUT THAT THING ISN'T MY DOING."

"PLEASE LET ME IN, I DIDN'T KNOW SOMETHING LIKE THAT WOULD SHOW UP!"

I saw a familiar black mist coming from the inside of his robe.

So, he was the cause.

I suspected that was the case; the timing between the monster raid and his leaving was too convenient.

After meeting up with the rest of my group, Lord Furland stood before everyone and looked down at Benjamin.

"To think you would sink this low, Ben…"

Lord Furland seemed to be very disappointed in Benjamin.

I wonder if they knew each other well.

"OH LORD FURLAND PLEASE SAVE ME."

"You were sent here to ensnare the other lords and give Zesian a reason to start a war. I care not anymore."

"Die"

Reaching toward Benjamin, Furland cast a spell.

From below Benjamin came an ice pillar, impaling him through the middle, cutting him in half.

Ew, that's so gruesome…

I guess he's not Overlord for nothing.

He's strong.

*SCREEEEEECHHH*

The monster had finally arrived.

I saw Jess cast a wide range magic on everyone.

"4th Holy Strengthen"

[Buff Detected]

[+4 to all stats!]

"Lay down your lives! This is a monster we cannot defeat without sacrifices!"

With Furland's declaration, we could only steel ourselves and charge.

Jumping off the wall, we scattered while maintaining a semblance of formation.

I doubt I'll be useful in this battle, but I have one goal.

No, I don't care if it destroys the city.

It'd be a shame, but since everyone is evacuated, it could be rebuilt.

No, it's not to protect the people fighting with me.

I can't protect people stronger than me.

It's that feeling.

If a few ogres made me experience a life-changing feeling.

What would happen if I managed to steal the last hit on a monster like that?!

I subconsciously began drooling.

Now that the StormEater is closer, I can have a good look.

Its eyes seemed to carry vortexes of lightning.

Lightning came crackling out of every pore.

As I thought, it was the size of a small city.

It covered the sky, and the parts uncovered were soon filled with storm clouds.

The clouds released a torrential rain with lightning plentiful enough to reshape the terrain.

This is ridiculous…
