Chereads / My Beloved Alpha King [BL] / Chapter 63 - Chapter 63 - Blame game

Chapter 63 - Chapter 63 - Blame game

Nicolai looked through all the files. It was a small pile. They only had a few regional problems like a flooded river nearby the eastern European pack. They had already sorted out the problem. They had only sent a report to inform their alpha.

He read all the reports. "Well this is good. I've got a brief view on the other packs," he smiled, glancing at Killian.

"oh.. Luna these are not the actual documents. They are just incident reports."

Nicolai frowned slightly. "Why didn't you say so when I was reading it and wasting my time. I could have gotten a brief fpm you,"

Killian glanced to his right at Dylan who had a guilty expression.

"he told you not to disturb me, right?"

"Hmm…"

Nicolai once glared at Dylan. "Bring out the actual reports that need to be solved. I'll take care of it all,"

"Sure~" Killian suddenly seemed very energetic. He ran to the shelf behind them and took out almost half the shelf's contents of the document.

"I didn't ask you to rearrange anything," Nicolai watched with a frown as Killian pulled stacks of documents and files out.

After taking out what almost looked like half the shelf he glanced back. "These are the documents that urgently need your assistance,"

"Um… what? You're.. You're joking right…."

"I wish I was," Killian mumbled.

Nicolai pulled out each of the top files in the piles. Everything was marked red. It was obviously all-important stuff. Why the hell were they stacked up on the shelf instead of sorted out.

'Why the hell is the pile so big! Fuck!'

He knew the answer to that already. With his eyes narrowed, he glanced back at the charming mister alpha king. "You didn't do your paperwork…"

He guiltily smiled and glanced at the floor.

"Oh god! You're the alpha king. You were supposed to take good care of all these… why the hell didn't you do your paperwork." He picked up a huge pile and slammed it on the table. "now I have to clean up after your shit,"

"I can do it…"

"No need. Killian, come help me out."

There was a loud sigh, and Killian sat beside him.

"How long did he ignore his duties?" Nicolai read through ones with the red tag marked ones, hurriedly. It was talking about a huge drought that was happening in the Asian regions. the temperature had risen so much that their water reserve had all diminished.

"Six months…." Killian mumbled.

He hurriedly approved the request for opening the dam that was in the nearby state. "He didn't work for six months! Why?"

"He was searching for you.."

Nicolai froze. His eyes inadvertently went to Dylan, who was looking at him silently. 'He was looking for me…. Six months ago… how did he know… oh the coffin.. and the twins… he must have found out about my existence from that.'

He continued to read the files as if nothing happened but inside his mind was in turmoil.

'He searched for six months?! Why. I was so close. It's just three hours away from here. Why can't he figure it out sooner huh? Why did he waste so much time? incompetent.'

Thump thump… thump thump… his little heart started to beat again.

'Wait did I want to be found… why is my heart getting excited by that idea. I clearly hate him… I clearly don't like him either.. why…'

Nicolai subtly massaged his chest, and he worked.

One file he read was the direst. It was about a regional war. The two packs nearby were having a territorial fight and the fights had escalated to war. Soldiers were dying each day.

"What do you guys do for territorial fights like this?"

He was still getting used to the ins and outs of this pack. He dealt with all other reports, but this report in particular he really needed the pack members' help.

Before Killian can look into it, Dylan poked his head in and read the document. "That is alpha Brian's and fin's territory. They have been very competitive from a young age. We tried to make them friendly. It worked for a while but now they have started their rivalry again. We have to call both the alphas here to have a console," Dylan mumbled with a frown.

"Then please make sure to arrange it. Territorial fights can escalade faster than we can imagine."

"True, my Nico is amazing," Dylan whispered softly.

Nico felt his face heat up. he subtly lifted up the file to hide it from unwanted people's sight. "Just get to work. Killian, gives him some of the reports. Before he makes any decision, I need to be informed about it,"

"I will always report to you," Dylan said cheerfully. He pulled out the huge pile Killian had in his hands and started to sort it out.

While he was reading through reports Nico found a small map that was shoved in between the paperwork. There were red marks all over and only the spot, his island, was circled.

"Um. That's mine," Dylan took it from him.

"What took you so long? It's close by you know. Three hours. Anyone could have figured it out…" Nicolai spoke without even realizing.

After uttering these words he realized that he sounded bitter. Like an old wife who was waiting for her husband to return from war, that kind of bitter.

"I searched for you in the human villages. Of course, you had woken up from the thousand-year-old sleep and you would have been very confused. I thought that you would seek the comfort of humans…"

"I changed my mind. I don't want to know."

"My assumptions were wrong. Nico, you are so amazing.. you were like a needle in a haystack. You hid so well… Only you can do that.."

"I'm not that great and I didn't find them. They found me. And you are wrong. I didn't go searching for human I came here," Nicolai mumbled silently.

Dylan froze. "I know… I saw you.. by the old ruins… I.. I froze over. I regret not chasing after you even to this day,"

Nicolai glanced up at him. "You should have." He did not wish to glance up at him any longer.

Dylan held his hand tightly. "You.. What happened to you that day… why were you on the floor. In the mud,"

"I don't wish to talk to you,"

"Nico, tell me. Please… did anyone hurt you? Did any of our wolves do this…"

Nicolai slammed the document. "What will you do if I say it was your fault? I woke up in a distant land that I could't recognize. Worked my ass off to get to my home… but it was no longer there. My family was gone and my best friend was gone. Its… it's all because of the war that's started because of you. I… I don't wish to look at your right now."

He shot up and left the room.

Inside Nicolai knew that Dylan was not at fault for the war. But… but his heart wanted someone to blame.

'Fuck I should not have done that.. I should not have… I only lost my family. What about him….'

Dylan had to live thousands of years. In those years, he must have lost a lot of friends, family, and… loved ones.

Nicolai massaged his forehead. He had no right to be judgmental. He had no right to blame him.
