Dylan sat in his study with an aching head. In front of him was a huge map with a lot of spots crossed out.
"It's hopeless.... we have been searching for him for so long," Killian his beat mumbled whilst handing him other documents. "You might want to look into this. The east werewolves are going out of control. You need to go and visit them."
Dylan pushed the documents away and peered at the map. "We must be missing something..." he caressed the spots on the map earnestly. "have we searched the waters. We might be missing a clue.. Something is missing..."
"Alpha king! We need you to deal with important thing,"
Dylan suddenly glared up at him. "you're saying my mate is not important..."
Killian sighed softly. "I'm not saying that.... alpha..."
Dylan knew that look all too well. "You think I'm crazy don't you...,"
"No, I fear that you are just imagining this...
"you're saying I'm imaging things." Dylan stood up with the map in hand. "Totally sad... no one believes me in my own pack," he sarcastically mumbled.
Killian let out a loud sigh. "We never caught his scent as you said. We never even saw the traces of your vampire. We could only sense the trace of the twin children. Yes, we found the old coffin, but we did not find anyone else. For all we know, it must have been a leftover coffin from one of the ancient covens that our enemy pack planted just to create panic,"
"hmm mnn..." all his words just went into one ear and escaped through another. he could not even register what his beta was talking about.
Dylan just walked around with the map in hand.
He could feel like he was getting nowhere. They had searched all around the nearby lovable islands. But there was one place that was left. it was the place next to where the river and the ocean met. A place riddled with whirlpools that could sink even a huge ship. There was no way anyone could have escaped through that and gotten to that island.
"Something.. There is something missing,"' he pranced around.
Few of the young ones were running around playing and shouting. Some of them were soaking wet leaving behind a trail of water. "Kids wipe your feet before coming in," he shouted.
The young ones giggled and cutely said "yes alpha,"
"Where did you guys play at? Did you guys go to the rover unsupervised? You guys know it's dangerous right," he slightly looked down at them with scrutinizing eyes.
The young wolves just looked at the ground. "we went to the river. But we did not play in the deep."
Hearing this suddenly Dylan thought of something... "deep.... deep waters..."
"alpha king, I'm being very serious we need to get to work. We have so much piled up. You can't afford to take months of break,"
Dylan just stood there, frozen. "Low tide and high tide.. do you think it affects the whirlpool?.."
"What tide? What are you talking about?"
"There is this thing... during full moons the tide is high and what about during no moon days? What then? Do you think the tides will be low?"
Killian sighed. "It's not how it works. During no moon and full moon day then there will be high tides,"
"So the few days in the middle there might be low tides,"
"Alpha king what are you getting at," Killian sounded more than frustrated with him.
Dylan felt his heart skip a beat, looking at the small island on the map. "I think I might have found my mate."
"What?"
"This island.. he is there,"
"It's a death trap. No man lives there. The tides there are so ferocious that it can eat up a huge ship. You think your mate escaped to this place? Impossible,"
Dylan smirked. "Not impossible. During low tides, the whirlpool might not be that strong."
Killian paused. "So what are your plans?"
"Prepare the ships. We shall set off right now,"
"Oh my god,," Killian rolled his eyes. "I can't believe we are doing this,"
"Killian I'm going to find my mate. I'm sure of it,"
He excitedly jumped into the ship and by afternoon they rode close to the whirlpool area. But to his demise, the whirlpool was very strong.
"We can't get close. I'm sorry Dylan but we should return home. We have things to deal with...."
Dylan just sat there staring at the whirlpool. "I... I thought I was right. I thought I found him at last.... I... I don't know..."
His heart was aching badly. It was like a person had stabbed his chest.
Dylan just sat there on the ship silently grieving.
His wolf remained silent, though. Unlike many other times, it did not shout for his mate.
His wolf had given up.
Dylan just sighed loudly. "I was so sure...."
Killian was looking ahead with a frown.
"I was so sure Killian. I thought I found Nico. But... he is nowhere. Maybe you are right. Maybe I was just dreaming everything... Nico is already dead. I have to accept that. it's good for me and for the pack. I can't go on like thi..." Killian suddenly cupped his mouth.
"shh... look,"
Dylan sat up and peered out at the ocean. The water that was so turbulent was getting slow.
"It's getting slow..."
"Yes it is...." Killian looked at him. "Maybe you are right..."
Dylan stood there gaping. "I'm.. right?"
Killian gave the orders to move around the whirlpool.
The ship slowly sailed past the dangerous spot safely into a fog-filled ocean. Their view was obstructed. They could not even see their own hand that was in front of their faces.
Suddenly the ship rocked violently.
Dylan and Killian stood there steadily.
"We have hit the surface..."' Killian looked at him surprised. "we... we actually got to the island.."
Dylan did not wait any longer. he jumped down and started to swim. The shores of the island were covered in mangrove trees and swamp. At one spot in particular he noticed the shore was filled up with sand. He swam there and climbed out of the water.
Taking a deep breath, he was hit by the intoxicating scent of oranges. His mind was on overload.
{'mate! mate! He is here!'} Wolfie shouted loudly.
Dylan grabbed a nearby tree to steady himself. That scent alone made him faint. It felt so good.
"I need to find him..." he mumbled blindly following that scent.
It led to a small hut. Four young vampires were running about playing in the sand. He stood before them. They all had a small scent of his mate stuck to their clothes.
"Um... do you guys know a vampire Nico...."
The young vampires screamed and ran off.
"What did I do... wait! Hey!"
