Three days... he was sick for three days after that botched spell incident. He had a very sore throat his body was aching all over and his head was pounding.
It was very tiresome to be sick. Especially when he had to eat tough elk meat for breakfast, dinner, and lunch. His meals were hard to digest and most of the time he need up puking out everything.
'Fuck.. I've never been this sick before.' He thought as he puked in a bucket. In his twenty-year life and his thousand-year-old sleep schedule, he had never been sick.
His human side was very strong and he usually never even felt cold.
But now everything was different. His whole body felt like it was hit by a truck.
'is it that spell.... gosh hi knew I should not play with magic. I should have known....' groaning he wiped his mouth. There was a very bad aftertaste in his mouth that he cul not wash off.
The other side of the small straw bed dipped. A small figure hugged his waist.
Nicolai paused mid-puke to glance back. Kiran just gave him a small smile. "kid.. I'm sick.. You'll get.. bleerch..." he continued puking his guts out.
"It's okay. Momma said that hugging makes you better," he whispered gently patting his belly.
Nicolai somehow felt better. he placed the bucket on the ground wiped his mouth with a dry ass leaf and laid down.
In these three days a lot had happened. After that spell debacle, Avery became surprisingly very silent. He became quite closed off and reserved. Nico tried talking to him, but the young vampire had none of it.
Matt and Raven as usual looked tired taking care of them all. They stayed out of the way most of the time.
But the new twins, they really liked sticking close. Especially Kiran the human one.
He glanced down to see Kiran sleepily closing his eyes.
"You can't sleep here," he nudged the little human boy's shoulders.
His small fist clenched his shirt tightly. "I want to sleep here..."'
"I'm sick. You'll get sick too if you are close," he glanced around hunter had a bright smile on his face as he was talking to Elijah. "Hunter, can you take Kiran with you? I don't want my flu to spread,"'
"Sure," the young blond vampire came to him in a hurry and lifted Kiran off the small makeshift straw bed.
Kiran just dully looked at him. "I want to sleep with Nico,"
"Not tonight. You shall sleep with him tomorrow, today you will be sleeping with Issac on his bed and Elijah will be sleeping with me,"
"No I'm sleeping with Nico." Kiran ran back to his bed and clung to his waist. "you can't stop me. I don't get sick... I know he will get better if I'm close,"
Elijah, his twin brother, gently patted his back. " it doesn't work that way,"
"Listen to your brother, go sleep with Issac just for a few more days. I'll get better,"
"no! You will get sicker.. like grandma... you will leave if I don't stay close." Kiran mumbled softly biting his bottom lips. His small eyes were filled with tears. "I don't want you to leave...."
Nicolai was slightly startled. He knew these two kids came with a lot of baggage and he knew that they had faced a lot of abuse and trauma. But he did not expect they had separation anxiety as well.
'This is going to be tough..... my flu might be very much dangerous for him.... I can't.... I can't allow this...' he gently cupped his small face. "I won't die, I'm a vampire remember."
"Vampires don't get sick," he sniffled.
"Well, I am special. I am a human as well as a vampire. Even though I get sick I won't die. But you... you're human Kiran. You have to take good care of yourself. you have to make sure you don't get sick. You have to stay safe, so just a few days okay. You can sleep close to me after that."
Kiran nodded hesitantly. "You promise you'll get better?"
"I promise. I will get better. Now go sleep with Issac. The night is getting cold. Issac tuck him in yes?"
Issac was a silent but responsible boy. He never really liked talking much but he always helped out when they needed it.
Hunter and Issac were the ones who helped out the most with the twins. Since they used to be the youngest before, they took it upon themselves to make sure Kiran and Elijah were comfortable as they could.
Heck the kids even shared their meals with Elijah and Kiran. Their bond was so sweet to witness.
"hey..." Raven sat next to him and gently placed a wet rag over his forehead. "How you feeling?"
"Alive.... my body is aching badly though...." Nico mumbled pulling the thin bed sheet over his chin. Since they were living in a secluded island, they didn't have many resources to buy bed sheets and stuff. They had to improvise and use the local plants to knit one.
It kept them warm, but it was in no way comfortable.
It was itchy and scratchy...
Nico silently scratched the itch on his arm.
"Here let me," Raven gently wiped that spot with the clan rag. "we'll get some towels and some sheets the nest time we are in town,"
"Next time? we royally failed the first time."
"Hell, we don't just give up like that. Especially you, you are our elder. We have to keep trying our best until we can survive."
Nico held his hand. "yes we will.. Not just survive, we will thrive.. Our kind will thrive Raven. I'll make sure of it,"
