Chapter 5 - A gloomy remote village

"Well, if you don't want to date me anymore, let us just break up!"

I didn't expect those words to come out of her mouth. How did someone I thought loved me so much turn out like this? Her eyes don't look at me as if she's tired of seeing my face. And her heavy, annoyed sigh, is it because I demand a little attention that I immediately become the villain here?

"Why? I thought you loved me." I said. Maybe my voice sounds flat. But there's a wave I'm trying to hold in there.

"I'm tired! Plus you're still an angry, I'm getting dizzy!"

I shook my head. I Can't believe it. "You think when I'm tired and you angry, I'm tired of it?! But I'm always patient with you. Why do you suddenly want to break up when I get angry for once?"

She is silent. Still kept averting her face from my gaze. I could see her tears starting to flow out. Usually, I would calm her down, and hug her while stroking his head until the crying stopped. But this time I can't.

"I don't know. I'm tired of you!"

She stood up and then walked away. Damn, what's the meaning of our relationship all this time? I'm still in high school. But that doesn't mean I don't think about the future. Even in the second grade, I was already thinking about marrying her someday.

As it turns out if you want to hear the funniest joke in the world is if someone says he has a plan. Because somehow the plan will collapse in front of reality.

"What are you dreaming about?"

I woke up when I heard Indira's voice. When I turned she looked at me with a questioning look or concern. I don't know, both things can be seen in her eyes.

"It is nothing," I answered. The two of us were riding along the trail leading south.

There were only meadows and small trees lined up around me. The sky was still clear, and I was glad I bought a hat to cover the blinding sun.

"You can tell me if you want." for some reason, Indira's voice felt comfortable in my ears. I'm also sure that she's staring at the back of my head right now. I don't know, Indira always exudes a warm and calming aura. Following her profession as a healer.

"Have you ever loved someone?" I decided to just talk. I've never told anyone about this, it's been a while. About a year and a half ago. And from that moment I started to immerse myself in the Game until I met Sara.

"W-why do you ask that?"

I don't know why her voice sounded a little shaky. As I looked back I could see Indira turning towards the grass in the wind. There was a slight blush on her cheeks.

"You asked me to tell it yourself, didn't you?" I say.

"So it's about the person you love?" Ask Indira. I looked forward again.

"Was," I corrected it.

"Oh, very interesting. What happened?"

I don't usually share about myself with other people. But when I think about it, this story is from another world.

"Maybe she's bored," I said.

"Are you boring?"

I cast a glance at her over my shoulder. But Indira didn't seem to be joking.

"That seems to be the case," I answered in the end.

"I've never loved anyone. So I don't know."

I just let my words hang in the air. After all, there is still a chance if I want to tell this story again.

I didn't think that our journey was this far. The village that Indira mentioned was at the foot of a mountain. To get there we had to pass through rainforests and swamps.

An entrance gate in the form of wooden blocks piled ten meters high finally appeared in front of us. On the tower that seemed to be hastily built a man was watching our arrival.

"Good afternoon! We are Adventurers from the city of Andoran." I shouted at him.

My voice seemed to take him by surprise until he pointed a bow at us. I raised my hand and Indira followed. Both of our faces must look tense now. But the face of the man up there didn't look any different either.

"We've come to help!" Indira shouted from behind me. The man lowered his aim at us and told whoever was below him to open the gate.

As soon as the gate opened we both entered. I dismounted and led Indira through the gate.

This village is exactly what I imagined it to be. It's not a big village where every community always smiles as soon as I enter it. Not like the villages I used to enter in the Game.

The villagers should be just NPCs. But now like all the things I encountered once I entered this game world, they seemed real. They are living beings who have emotions and feelings that are conveyed through suspicious and fearful eyes and tense faces that accompany them.

This village is gloomy.

A thin bearded man with broad shoulders approached us. A sword was tucked into his waist. Not a good sword.

"Are you Adventurers?" Asked the man while looking at us in turn. His voice was deep and his confidence made me believe that he was the leader of this village.

"Yes sir. My name is Indira. I am a healer, and this is Utopia." Indira replied. I smiled and gave him a small bow.

"My name is Galad, village chief here. Please come with me," he said. "Close the gate again!"

The two of us led the horses following Galad until we finally arrived in front of a house not much different from the others. A house composed only of wood. I tied the horse I rented to a pole in the yard and then followed Indira inside.

We sat on wooden chairs in what looked like a living room. Galad sighed as he sat across from us. Without removing his sword from his waist.

I took off my fur hat and put it on the table. And Indira sat up straight facing Galad.

"So only the two of you came, huh," said Galad. "Well, I didn't expect anything. I didn't even expect anyone to come."

"I already promised," Indira said. I turned to her. And her unreasonable earnestness was still evident in her gaze. Galad looked at her without saying anything for a while.

"Actually what happened?" I asked. "I already know from Indira that this village is being targeted by bandits. But we don't know the details yet."

Galad turned to look at me. "They are a group of people who are looking to profit from the war going on in Borderland. Since they know the royal soldiers won't come to a small village like this, they can freely loot us."

Before I could open my mouth, I heard a scream from outside the house. We all turned towards the door that opened suddenly.

"The bandits are coming!"
