But his father thought otherwise.
"You tried on your mum's shoes?"
Foolish Jaxon was still stupid enough to respond. "Of course."
Then his father had moved closer to him and squinted his eyes at his son. "Jaxon be truthful with me, could it be that you actually like women's things? Like you want to be a transgender?"
Even Ambrose hadn't thought this far and squinted his eyes at his brother.
Jaxon takes a step backwards and quickly raised his hands in defeat. "No..dont do this to me. You know I didnt mean it that way." He then shifted the focus to his brother. "Do you know brother has a girlfriend? I can't believe I did not know about it. I thought we were brothers, brother."
Ambrose shook his head and picked a pen from the table to toy with. "How many more times do I have to tell you that you were adopted?"
Jaxon places his hands akimbo while their father tried to think of ways to get more gist for his wife.
"I am sure you said you found me in the waste bin."
"Same thing as being adopted. After we found you in a waste bin, we decided to adopt you. You arent part of our family."
Jaxon was used to this and only shaked his head, he was itching for more gist. "So tell me brother, who is this lucky big sister in law? What does she look like?"
"How old is she? What is her profession? Her name? Her complexion? When did you two meet?" Mr Mo pestered and both brothers gave him a suspicious look.
"I should tell you so you can blabber away to your wife again right?"
Mr Mo brushed his words off and leaned forward to pat his hand. "Of course not. Son I am no longer that kind of person. I am just worried for you."
"She is a student..." he finally says and then stares at his dad before staring at the door. Mr Mo immediately understood what he meant. Slowly walking towards the door he continued to glance back at his sons who werent even looking in his direction. Ambrose pretend to be focused on the pen while Jaxon suddenly found a button on his shirt interesting.
Finally when he left Jaxon turns to his brother. "Tell me about big sister in law."
Ambrose swirled his chair so that he was facing his brother. "Since when did I start to listen to you?"
Jaxon walked away from him and sat on the table. "I am just afraid that you might be lying to our mom so she will stop nagging at you."
"And what if I dont have anyone I am bringing home? What will you do? Will you find me someone?" He nonchalantly asks.
"Brother, tell me do you really not have someone you like? Look at me I have had exes so mum isn't worried that much. In all my 24 years in life I havent seen you with a girl. Even I am beginning to think you may be gay. You will be 30 next year with no girl do you want to worry mom to death? Dont forget she is my mother too. If you stress her I wont forgive you. If you are gay, why dont you just tell us straight?"
Ambrose stares at his stupid brother. "Are you serious? If you so much care about our mother, why dont you get married then?"
Jaxon sighs and starts to explain. "Brother, I am only 24 and I just broke up but you are going to be 30 and you have never had a woman. Tell me with common sense who should get married first?"
Ambrose looks up before saying."When you were first born and you were just five months, mom and dad left you to me and went to do some work. You started crying so I gave you food but you didnt stop crying and I gave you your stupid toy but you cried even more so instead I spanked your butt and you stopped crying. Now that you are bothering me again I am starting to think I have to give you another beating to shut you up."
Jaxon quickly scoots and hides away from his brother. "How evil! No wonder you have no woman by your side. Hmph. No one can put up with you. Let me tell you right now as your only lovely sibling, you can never get a woman with this attitude."
"Then as a relationship advisor let me tell you my evaluation of your always horrible ending relationships since I have known you. You need to be more sensible. Stop using money to chase girls and use that nonsense you call a brain."
Jaxon thinks, "If it is a nonsense I call a brain, how am I supposed to use it then?"
Ambrose fed up of his stupidity and sends him away.
He is about to leave when he stops and says. "Brother, if you are really a relationship advisor and you know so well, how come you dont have a relationship?"
Calmly, Ambrose drops the pen and responds. "Have you ever heard of coaches playing?"
"No."
"Now go away and dont annoy my eyes." He commands and Jaxon hurries out of the door. Few minutes after, Mason sent Ambrose a particular number. Staring at the string of numbers, he could not stop the smile from rising on his lips. "So this is little sins number?" He didnt hesitate and called her.
Folawe had just taken her bath and was about to go to bed and scroll through her phone when a strange line calls her. Wondering who it could be, she picks it and didnt say a word.
"Going to bed already?" Ambrose asks and Folawe quickly gets up from her bed.
"President Mo.." she softly calls. "Yes. You?"
"I will be having dinner soon. I will send you a document. You can read it and let me know if you find anything you would like to change before signing."
He was so straight to the point. Thank God she hadn't deluded herself into thinking she has really found a rich boyfriend. "Yes President Mo. Take care." Ambrose didnt want to hang up yet but the kid beat him to it. Staring at his phone, he wonders, is this how a relationship works?
A worker came in to call him for dinner and he quickly sends Folawe the document. Walking out of the study, he thinks of what to save her name as and finally ends up with something. Did she think she was the only one who thought the other was sin?
His mother had prepared a feast at the table and was busy telling Jaxon to not take the friend plantain before his brother arrived. Getting to the dining, Ambrose gave Jaxon a smack at the back of his head.
"Brother..."
"It is wrong to steal food."
"But mom prepared this for for us."
Mrs Mo was quick to counter him. "Us? Who are the us? I prepared the food for your brother who has found a wife." She happily said and pats her sons fluffy hair, forgetting that Ambrose didnt like anyone touching his hair.
"Mom..dont touch my hair."
"Pele oko mi, ma binu. (Sorry my husband, dont be annoyed). I am just too excited that you have finally found a wife."
Jaxon sat beside his brother and tries to not laugh.
"Wife?" Ambrose repeats. "When did I tell you I have found a wife?"
Shocked, Mrs Mo paused in giving him fried plantains and returns it to the bowl. Covering it, she also angrily asks her son. "Did you not tell me that you have found a wife and would bring her for Christmas? Abi iru awon omo wo wa leleyi bayi? (Which kind of children are these)?" She turns to her husband with an emotional look.
"I told you I am bringing my girlfriend home. Not a wife." He corrects.
Glad Mrs Mo opens the bowl and gave him loads of friend plantain. With a smile she told him. "Kini iyato? (What is the difference?) A girlfriend would lead to a wife someday. Hopefully it will be early next year." She excitedly said with a dreamy look and Ambrose knew his mother was already planning the wedding event in her mind.
Dropping his cutlery he begins to explain. "Mom let's not get too ahead of ourselves. I wont want you saying thses things when I bring her home else you will scare her away with your marriage talk."
Mrs Mo quickly agrees and takes her seat. Mr Mo and Jaxon were trying to get plantain in their plate but she kept using the spoon to smack their hands. "I understand. I understand. We shouldn't push her too much. I heard she is a student. Which university does she attend?"
As if planned Jaxon and Ambrose glares at their father.
"You said you aren't that kind of person anymore."
Mr Mo clears his throat and slowly sips water. "Well..you know how your mother is."
"How am I? Were you not the one that told me things i didnt ask you for in the kitchen?" His wife immediately exposes despite his pleading looks.
