The next morning came so quickly that Folawe felt she didnt even get a wink of sleep. Her flatmate who was also her course mate was the one who woke her with a knock on her door.
"Dont tell me you are still sleeping."
Lazily strutting to the door she nags. "What is it this morning?"
Joy who was the over active friend stomps in and shakes her friend. "Idiot you have no time to sleep. We have to go to school."
"You know I dont sleep until five. School? Arent we done with exams? See me I am going home today oo."
Joy started pacing around the room and finally stops in front of the mirror. "Go home tomorrow but you see today, we are going to school?"
Folawe starts looking through her wardrobe for clothes. "What for? Is school yet to close? It is four days to Christmas for Chirst sake."
Joy was adjusting her bra when she replies. "Did you forget that President Mo will be giving a sexy speech today I must not miss seeing that handsome face in reality. I even charged my powebank." She excitedly informs.
Quickly Folawe turns around and drops the cloth she was holding. Indeed, the man was to give a speech today. The man she had met and offended with her words yesterday. He didnt even say a word when she apologized which must mean that he was yet to accept her apology. Closing her eyes, she quickly puts a hand to her forehead.
"See Joy I think only you should go. I have this mad headache."
Joy turns around with a straight face. "Even if you have diarrhoea, I will still drag you to school. Fola, I am giving you twenty minutes to get ready." She then walks outside.
If there was one thing Joy was known for, then it was being stubborn. She would really drag her if she had to. Folawe calms herself and mentally reminds herself that President Mo wouldn't remember her. He is a big shot and she is just a passer by in his life. Going by this, she hurriedly gets ready.
Thirty minutes after they were on their way.
"I cant believe you. Where did you put that new Jean we just bought? You should have worn something brighter." Joy complains on there way. Folawe who was praying in her mind that she would not be remembered by President Mo or his assistant didnt give a fu*k about what she was saying.
Mo Ambrose, like always was looking through files on his laptop when he raises his head to question his assistant.
"That house, did Jaxon give you the location?"
"Yes president. He feels guilty for selling you out."
The man raised a side of his lips. "Guilty indeed. I will be obtaining the house."
Mason was no longer surprised by this. The two brothers were pros when it comes to obtaining things they wanted. Even if it belonged to the other person.
Mo Ambrose was dressed in a black suit with white shirt and black ties, his cufflinks would sparkle if the slightest ray of light shines on it.
"And about what I told you to look into?"
Mason really didnt want to say this but he earned his pay from the man so he had no choice. "Well her name is Folawe and she is twenty, Thank God."
Lifting his head, he stares at his assistant through the mirror. "Thank God?"
"I mean she looked underage and I was afraid that..." the death look he got from the man was enough to shut him up.
"I am no paedophile. Continue."
"Her family is in trouble. They owe a huge debt and they arent that well to do so they cant pay it."
Humming over this, he questions. "What is the percentage of her family being able to pay the debt?"
"By miracle 90%. By no miracle or magic, maybe 2%."
Her family condition must be really bad. He had thought. He didnt utter a word again till they got to the school.
In school, Folawe found a safe place under a tree to stay while Joy went to say hi to their course mates. As she watched them chatter, the thoughts of how to pay their family debt filled her mind. If only God could just give her a miracle. If only.
Suddenly the students started screaming and shouting. Folawe covered her frail ears and Joy ran over to her, tapping her friend continuously. "Ahhhh..tell me, isnt he handsome?"
Folawe properly hid behind her friend as she watched President Mo and the VC with some other important members of the university walk into the hall. Perhaps the man was donating to their school like he had done to some other schools.
The lecturers had gotten some student council members into the hall and could only manage to squeeze more students in. Joy being hyper active drags her friend to the queue.
"Even if we die we have to get inside that hall." Joy said and Folawe wanted to comment but it was too noisy.
By the time they squeezed some students inside the hall, Folawe was the only one left outside the door. The other students who couldn't get in, had rushed to the other side to stand by the huge windows and get a view of the man. Joy who was the last to go inside the hall beckons for her friend to follow but Folawe just stood there.
Mo Ambrose was standing on the raised platform and discussing somethings with the VC when he noticed her and since Folawe had been doing her best to stay away from his view, she knew when he looked at her. She quickly turns around.
"You can leave. The hall is full." The female lecturer told her. She was quick with her legs when she heard the man speak into the microphone.
"The young girl in blue can come in." Mo Ambrose says and Folawe just wished she could vanish into thin air. Acting like she didnt hear him she took another step. "The young girl in blue blouse and blue Jean, you can come in."
The female lecturer tapped Folawe and signaled for her to go in.
The Vc was surprised and explains to the President. "President Mo, the thing is the hall is full already and we are taking measures due to the pandemic."
Folawe was dragging her legs when she entered the hall. Why was luck never on her side?
Mason who recognized her was quick to point at her, excited. "Oh..it is you. You go to school here?" He pretended to be surprised. "Thank you for yesterday."
Folawe could only slightly nod her head. Quickly doing a sweep around the hall begging Joy with her eyes to help her. Joy, whose eyes were wide as saucers couldn't say a word.
"Do you know her?" The VC questioned.
Mo Ambrose nods his head and leaves the platform. He picks his laptop from the seat assigned to him and beckons to the young lady. "You may sit here."
Folawe knew most of the girls would be sending her a glare but she had no choice. Awkwardly, without being able to comfortably sit, she manages to place her butt on the chair.
The VC wanted to comment but Mason stops him. "The president will be giving a speech anyways, he wouldn't need a seat." Which was a lie because he knew what his boss was trying to do.
Getting on the raised platform again, he explains to the VC. "We had a flat tire yesterday and she was passing by. Kind enough to change our tires." When he said his last statement, his eyes were on the girl who looked like she would bolt out of the door any second. He handed the papers that were given to him by the school to his assistant and was about to start when he remembers something. "Ah.." the girls were already drooling over him. Folawe hoped that he wouldn't talk about her but..." Young girl, why dont we talk about my glasses that you ruined after this speech?"
"Sir...?" she mutters but he was sure to make it out.
"My glasses. The one you ruined. Pay for it."
Folawe got up instantly. "Incredulous! Pay for what? Is not just the lens? All you have to do is stick it back in. I use glasses too." She fumbled with her bag and brought out her glasses removing the lens, she shows into him. "See..? I removed the lens." She then placed the lens back. "See? It is this easy."
Her sudden change in emotions amused Ambrose. She acted like he was asking her to pay him a huge sum. Smiling, he replies. "I was kidding. Although the lens is scratched, I will request another. I just want to learn how to change tires from you."
"Ahhhh...." the student shouted.
A daring male student got up and shouted. "Love is in the air. Eveyone block your nostrils."
Shocked Folawe could only glare at the man.
