Chereads / Kara Cahill (The White Wolf) / Chapter 25 - Hera is still here

Chapter 25 - Hera is still here

"Touching you will be deadly." Loid stated.

Smart man, Hera/Kara thought. She would have tortured him if his skin so much as grazed her. She wished she had perfected her blood bending.

Loid paced with his hand running through his hair, something she had always loved to do. Now? She wanted to yank them from his head.

"I had no choice Hera, it was my mission." He continued to speak. "I really did fall in love with you."

Hera/Kara gave him a wry smile, no way was she going to try to understand him. She was trying to steady her heartbeats in hopes that someone, anyone would find them before it was too late. She wished fervently that she had learnt how to cloth blood, maybe then she would have stopped the bleeding.

"... are deadly. I understand their sentiments, a blood bender would be too dangerous to leave alone. Convincing you not to learn more about your powers wasn't enough, I couldn't let my love for you cloud my judgements. You have to understand me Hera." He explained to her.

This was about her blood bending?! Well... what else could it have been about.

Some people emerged from the other end of the cave, they had satisfied looks. She tried to study all their faces but her vision kept blurring, in and out.

"I guess it is done then." A woman stated cruelly.

A man moved closer and touched her, before anyone could stop him, he fell to the floor, limp. Hera/Kara could feel herself slipping away, and she didn't mind taking someone else with her. She would take as much as was stupid enough to touch her.

"I told you, she was an abomination."

This voice she knew. Her aunt, her father's sister had spoken. She'd defected, left them all and renounced herself as a Deville. Her white hair was now a total black.

She had been betrayed by her own. Loid Winterly and Tabetha Deville. She would never forget.

"A child was born, forbidden and cursed." Hera began. As if she was possessed, her eyes had turned totally white. She remembered how they had all whispered about her when she had done her first blood bending.

"An abomination in the realms, betrayed by its kin." Her own family took it upon herself to end her. Plotted to end her. Hera/Kara felt rage.

"A law broken cannot be repaired, a black spot on a pure heart." Devilles died, that was normal. Got killed by outsiders, normal. But it was against the law to kill their own.

"The consequences cannot be avoided. Time shall come, said child shall kill... family and foe." Hera said with a final note.

They had all heard her. An eerie prophecy that held hatred and vehemence. Only the people standing and watching her take her last breath understood a fraction of what she meant.

Hera was surprised when she was still in control of the body two hours later. A huge part of her was worried about Kara. She sat on her bed and stared at the wall. She could feel the other girl's presence but it was dull. As if she wasn't totally there.

Hera didn't know what to do with herself. She didn't want people to notice she wasn't Kara. She looked around the room and pulled out the dagger in Kara's knapsack. She was surprised it hadn't been on her person. Hera turned it over in her hand and frowned, it had the snowflakes symbol on it but in a peculiar way.

The door to the room opened and Klaus walked in.

"Are you okay Kara?" He asked with genuine worry.

Hera froze.

"You seemed off early. I know I haven't really been there as a brother, or a friend and when I show up I'm overly protective at times but I mean well. What you did to Mara was a bit cruel-"

"She deserved it." Hera cut him off.

Klaus sighed and proceeded to sit on her bed. "I may have painted Mara in a bad light, not that I can remember well. But it's not her fault, neither is it mine."

"How so?" Hera kept her back to him.

"Mara's dad is Lucas Cahill,  my... our dad's brother, which makes her our cousin. But the brothers haven't been in friendly terms since I can remember. Mara suffers from it." He explained.

"Daddy issues, big whoop."

When Hera didn't turn to him, he continued.

"He suspects your existence. "

Hera turned abruptly. "What?!"

Klaus nodded. "Apparently, he was close by when you were born and has your scent in his memory but no proof. Everyone thinks I'm the only child, except Lucas. He has always wanted to be alpha and he has been looking for ways to take it from dad. He knows I don't have the alpha's symbol."

She digested the information and narrowed her eyes. "What does Mara have to do with this?"

"Mara is a year older than you. From what I heard, her birth softened his heart. When you were born, he became worse than before. Though no one else knows, except for a few, who you are. Mara never felt the love of her father. For a while he was obsessed with proving your existenxe then became obsessed with becoming the alpha. He ignores her existence unless it is beneficial to him."

"Are you saying this is my fault? Her daddy issues are my fault? The lack of love from her father. Do you think I'm swimming in a pool of eternal daddy love? "

"Not you. Your mother."

Hera narrowed her eyes but he didn't notice.

"If she hadn't showed up, all this wouldn't have happened. Mara would have her father's love..." He said with a sigh, running his hand through his hair.

"I wouldn't have been born and you would be the alpha." She said coolly.

He opened his mouth to speak but she cut him off.

"Of course, it is always the Deville's fault." She cocked her head, her eyes becoming a deeper shade of blue.

Klaus frowned. "I don't mean it like that, I'm happy you were born. I'm happy I have an older sister. But yes, she should have known better than..."

"Known better you say. Why? She doesn't deserve happiness. She doesn't deserve love. She doesn't deserve to love or be loved."

"Kara you know I don't mean it that way." He stood up and tried to move towards her. "Something is different about you."

"Oh so something is different about me all because I don't agree with you. So all these years you blamed Anastasia. Did your father not fall in love with her or do you have it somewhere in that head of yours that she casted a spell on him?." Hera straightened her spine. "I suggest you get out and never come back to this room if you want to stay alive."

Klaus was taken aback by the cold threat. She smelled different and looked different. Something wasn't right.

"Klaus, I'm not joking. My patience is waning."

He nodded stiffly and proceeded to rush out.

"Oh and never speak ill of my mother again, there is only so much badmouthing I can take. You don't see me faulting your mother for falling for a taken man."

Klaus gritted his teeth and snarled. "They are the true mates."

"Boohoo." She pouted mockingly with a finger on her lips.

Klaus slammed her door shut in anger, leaving her to a deafening silence. Hera collapsed to the floor, she was shaking.

Rage. That was what she felt. She should have known better. The Deville is always at fault, no one else takes the blame. Cowards.

It had taken all her willpower not to kill him. She'd heard his heartbeat and felt it. For the first time, she hadn't felt the need to touch him to crush his heart. She had envisioned it in her head and had tasted his blood in her mouth.

Bloodlust had almost consumed her.
