Chapter 37 - The transportation

I did not have any intention of staying longer there. I hated packing things and carrying suitcases. I might not have to handle the carrying personally but I was okay with my suitcase.

********

There was a lot I was yet to understand about their transport system and why I Was put to sleep. I did not hesitate to ask my sister about it.

"It is too fast," she replied. "Moving from such a far distance at such speed could kill you if you are not put to sleep," she further explained.

I had a vague understanding but it was not clear enough. Why would it be too fast? "How long did it take me to arrive here from the prison world?" I asked her to understand it better.

"It takes an hour to travel from the capital to the prison world through the government transport system and it would take forever if you go through other transport systems," she replied seriously. "What happened to you?"

I raised an eyebrow and narrowed my eyes. "What do you mean by that," I asked confused.

"You knew it all before you went to the prison world," she answered as she turned to leave.

"I had to fight for my ticket to the capital. I did it to survive and it was hard. I got injured and I lost my memories. It has been a decade since I left. Do you think I will remember all the things I left behind here?" I asked her thoughtfully hoping she believes all I said.

She nodded and walked out of the room. I felt an urge to go after her. After all, we might have started on the wrong foot but we have become close enough. Or that was what I chose to believe due to the loneliness I have faced since I moved to this world?

I don't know if you would be able to relate but I am someone who has never sort for appreciation from anyone all my life as I was always appreciated.

Here, I was called a pervert for the first time. Don't get me wrong as I am very independent and I am not comfortable trusting people easily.

I will not die because of loneliness, especially with my cat on my side but I am not wrong for finding a friend in my stepsister, right?

I must sound desperate these thoughts make me feel desperate but who would not mind having a human to talk to.

She opened the door and peeped. "I wish you a safe journey and I hope you will not lose the memories you have left. It will not be easy for you at all."

I smiled and rubbed the back of my neck. "Thank you," I appreciated sincerity. In life, you might do something of very little significance to someone but you never know how much that thing could go a long way in affecting that person's life.

She nodded coldly before disappearing through the door.

My father in this world invited me over to his office and I went to him. He gave me an hour of lectures on how I was going to mend the mine and make it pleasant enough for the king to overlook the crimes his sons have committed against the crown.

I listened with humility and nodded at every word he said. it was not bad if you try not to take it too seriously. If I could avoid it, I would have done everything I can to avoid going.

I came to the capital with the mind that I could begin planning my escape from this world. If only the king knows about the escape route, I might as well try to get on his good side by doing the work well not for this family I had nothing to do with.

I went to my room to get my cat afterward and she followed me out when I got to the living room downstairs.

"We have to get the chip," my cat told me as we waited for whoever was taking us to the mining town.

"What chip?" I did not want to hear anything about some crazy chip that would connect me to my cat and my cat to other cats again.

It was annoying. I wonder what was preventing them from having phones. If I ever get to talk to the king, I will like to ask him why he was forcing his people to live this way when there were millions of other ways, he would have had them live in a better way.

"We will get the chip before we travel."

I swallowed and looked down at the only suitcase I was bent on traveling with. "I don't want to."

She did not take my word seriously as she looked away with that air of pride, I have always wondered how she was able to manage that as a cat.

"I don't want to," I murmured with a slight pout hoping to persuade her that there was no need for us to get some crazy chip for communication. I don't even know where they'll bury the chip.

I don't think the king uses a cat. I did not see a cat in his house. I concluded that he chose cats for communication to punish people and make them way below him.

I will not be surprised if my conclusion was true because why else would he make us have cats instead of phones? He was being unfair to humans and cats at the same time.

I was taken to what could be called the train station in a black car, like one I have not seen. It was tinted and had a logo with a crown on it on the hood.

I knew they were going to make us sleep again since where I was head was the farthest town from the capital after the prison world. I don't know why they were bent on sending me far from my escape route.

I looked at my cat when the car stopped. It was not like the first time because this time, I was led into a train. I was directed to a seat by the man who drove the car.

He was dressed like a customs officer looking unusually pale. He was stone-faced too and did not reply to me when I smiled and told him 'Thank you'.

I put on my seatbelt when he told me to. The train was empty and I was the only person in the coach and I did not see anyone else apart from the guards around.

While thinking I would be awake throughout the journey, I fell asleep. I swear that I tried to keep my eyes open but I could not.

It had that type of feeling you get after consuming sleeping pills if you have ever consumed one before.
