Chapter 27 - Chapter 27 - Painful Memories

"My folks are gone too," continued Mark, "all I've got left is a younger brother who lives with our aunt outside of Portland. My parents didn't get trapped in a dungeon but they also passed away when I was young, it was the Fellowship."

Hearing this another wave of emotions hit the group of kids: fear. The Fellowship was a well known name among the people. They were a worldwide crime group who did unspeakable things to achieve their goals. Murder and rape were common practice to this group and they weren't even considered the darkest deeds they had committed. It was an especially evil group whose name didn't follow what was commonly associated when one thought of a fellowship. The scariest among the group were known as the Seven Cardinals, each of them were awakened who used their abilities to commit horrible deeds and whose abilities were all feared. Then there was their leader who had been called the Godfather, he was considered the most evil among them, and had been at the top of GAA's wanted list since he first emerged.

All of the Cardinals as well as the Godfather had their identities unknown, due to the masks they would don whenever they made appearances into the world, which made the evil group seem even more mysterious.

Mark went on to explain that originally his family had been living in Toronto, Canada, this allowed the other students to know how the Fellowship were involved. A little over a year after the first gate appeared in Manila, the Fellowship hadn't really been taken seriously. That was until overnight, the city of Toronto had practically been wiped off the face of the map by them.

Mark went on to describe the black flames he remembered so vividly that had swallowed the building where he lived, and the horrible screams as people's lives were extinguished by the Fellowship's followers. His mother had died when he was very young, and his father had given his life to make sure that he and his brother had been taken to the refugee camp stationed outside the city once the attack commenced. From the refugee camp, his aunt had flown him and his brother to Portland where she took care of them from then on.

It was a depressing story and it definitely brought down the mood of the whole group. Even Chris was brought to silence which contradicted his usual high strung demeanor. Eventually Milo cleared the air, smiling he said, "We survived and we're stronger for it, not only that but because of everything we've been through we now have new goals that push us forward. If we let it eat us up inside then we'd be doing those who saved our lives a disservice."

Mark nodded in agreement, and while it helped the group into continuing back to the school, it reminded them of the horrors that could be out there in the world. After getting back to the dorm they said their goodnights and returned to their rooms. Milo laid in bed thinking back to the day his parents left for the dungeon where they disappeared, "stronger," Milo kept repeating in his head, "I will become stronger."
