Molly asks Evan to bring the bag into the kitchen. She has to cook quickly, not wanting to starve her son-in-law. But when she reached the kitchen, her eyes fell on the bouquet of her favorite flowers, White Carnation.
"Wow! Son-in-law, you brought this?" She takes the flower and smells it.
"Yes, Aunt…do you like this flower?"
"Sure! This is my favorite flower." Molly looks at Evan with a questioning look, "How do you know my favorite flower?"
Evan smiled while glancing at Rose. She is now sitting on one of the chairs on the island while eating the cake.
"Rose told me…."
Rose, busy eating cake, suddenly stopped when she heard Evan say her name. She looks at him but only for a second. She turns her gaze again to the cake, embarrassed because her mother calls Evan her future son-in-law.
She wanted to ask her mother to stop calling Evan like that. But now, her mother still talked with Evan. She could only take a deep sigh while continuing to eat her cake. Then, an idea pops up in her mind when her eyes look at the chocolate cake.
She smiled. She immediately turned her gaze to her mother.
"Mother... Evan, also bring a cake. Do you want some?" She tried to attract her mother's attention with a chocolate cake that tasted really good. This was the first time she had eaten this heavenly taste cake. She believed her mother would like the cake too.
Molly is surprised when she notices there's a cake on the table. She instantly felt terrible for Evan because he brought so many gifts. What's more, she saw the cake brand, which surprised her even more. The cake was quite expensive. How could Evan buy such a costly cake?
Buying this cake is not easy, but it must be ordered a few days before, and the queue slot is quite long. How did that boy get this cake so fast? Molly was impressed.
"Son-in-law, next time, you don't need to bring anything if you come here. You can come anytime. Just think of this house as your own home…." Molly's words make Evan feel happy. But Rose's reaction was different.
She almost fell from her chair to hear her mother's words.
"Gosh! Mom, can you slow down a little bit!? You already called him son-in-law. Now you want him to treat our house like his?" Rose could only scold her mother in her heart while trying to cast a spell on her mind to stay sane.
"Aunty, I feel happy to bring a cake for Rose and you…."
"Son-in-law…" Before Molly could finish her words, she could feel her daughter pull her hand. Molly was surprised and drew her head closer to Rose. She frowned as if to ask her daughter; Why did I do wrong?
"Mom, stop calling Evan son-in-law!" Rose whispered to her mother. She was starting to worry that Evan would think her mother was too much.
"Why? Are you shy?" However, despite being confused by her daughter's move, she could feel her daughter must be feeling awkward.
"Evan will feel uncomfortable, mom! Please, stop calling him that…." Rose glared at her mother because her mother laughed instead of understanding what she asked. Jee!
"Rose, I'm okay with that name!" Rose and Molly were startled to hear Evan's voice behind them. At once, they looked back and smiled at him.
He continued, " I'm delighted when aunty called me, son-in-law..." Evan looks at Molly with a friendly smile. "Aunty, I will not make you wait long. I will marry your daughter soon..."
Rose almost choked with her chocolate cake, hearing Evan's sudden confession.
"Evan…"
Evan smiled when he saw the look in Rose's eyes that seemed surprised by his words.
"I mean it, Rose. I don't want to date you for long. I seriously want to marry you."
Suddenly Molly feels warm inside her heart when she hears Evan's words. Like every mother, she feels happy and pleased when someone finally loves her daughter sincerely and is willing to marry her soon. Even more pleased when this someone is a good, kind-hearted man.
"I know…" Rose smiles back at Evan. "But... are you currently proposing to me?"
Evan froze.
"Rose! No…no...this is not. Hahaha… This is not my proposal." Evan could only stroke his nape, feeling awkward. He blamed himself for speaking too much. "Well, I will propose to you romantically and properly..." He took a deep sigh.
Seeing Evan flustered, Molly came to the rescue.
"Daughter, take Evan to see your messy room. Maybe if my future son-in-law sees your messy room, he will consider marrying you." Molly laughed when she saw her daughter's sullen expression. She immediately makes an excuse to cook their lunch.
"Is what Auntie said true?" Evan asks while following Rose to the corridor that leads them to the back area. He just realized that Rose's house was divided into two units. The front and back are separated by an indoor garden that looks stunning.
Soon they entered the back area and went straight to the multipurpose room. There's a three-seater sofa facing the large flat-screen TV. And on the other side, there is a large bookcase filled with books, reading chairs, and a reasonably large study table. There is also a Glass Door refrigerator in that room filled with cold drinks and fresh fruit and cake inside.
Evan could see in this room where Rose spent her time.
"Evan, this back area is specifically my place. While my mother controlled the front side. I used to spend time studying and relaxing here. And as for that door, that is my bedroom." Rose looked at Evan, who was standing beside her. "Do you want to see my messy bedroom?"
"Sure! I want to see if what your mother said is true…." He chuckled.
"Would you run away if you saw my room was really messy?"
"Sure! I sure will let you tidy it first!" He followed her to her bedroom with a big grin and slight worries.
"Looks like you have to be disappointed, Evan. My room is tidy. You can't run away from me now…." She walked into her bedroom while laughing, remembering her mother's words earlier.
Evan stopped right in front of the open door. He smiles lovingly hearing Rose's words.
