Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The King chooses a loyal servant

"You're only going to laugh at me again" she sulked. "Come on, I will be serious this time I promise… what did he say…" he said with a soft smile on his face, shaking his head tenderly at her.

Maia sighed. "He basically warned me not to stick out my neck for people, because… next time I do, he will not spare, not even me…" Maia said as she looked to the side, but she never told him the other part of what the King had told her earlier that day, as she held the King's words dear to her heart…

When Kusava heard this, his eyes went wide open and looked at her suddenly, being taken back by what the King warned her about, then he looked to the side and smirked at her,

"Oh… well he does have a point… you better be careful, Maia…take the King seriously at his words…. Because if something were to happen to you, I don't know what I'd do…" he said holding her firmly. "Kusava…." Maia said as she turned around and hugged him tightly.

The next day, Maia serves at the Palace and whilst she is serving with her servant friends, the King gave judgements to farmers and approved food rations for their cattle.

The next day, that afternoon, Leon commanded his guards to bring Maia to his bed chambers while everyone left for the day.

The guards brought Maia to the King in his bed chambers. "Do you know what he wants me for?" Maia asked the guards, as she was friends with them. "Don't know, all we were told was to bring you to his bed chamber quarters" the guards responded simply. "That's comforting" Maia responded in sarcasm. "comforting to him, Maia, hahahah" the guards joked dirtily with her. "you're disgusting" she responded simply, the guards laughed even more, however when they reached the King's bed chambers, they composed themselves in a serious manner and knocked on the door to announce themselves, as they opened the door slowly and walked into his room slowly, bringing Maia with them as they walked into his room.

The King is laying on his bed with his shirt open and wearing his trousers, but they are left slightly open revealing his lower abdomen and his shirt half open, revealing his torso, being late in the afternoon early evening, the King wanted to feel the cool breeze coming into the bedroom from the balcony as he laid in bed reading a book.

The guard leaned in closer to Maia's ear slightly when the King wasn't watching and whispered quietly, "What I'd tell you…." He smirked. "Shut up!" Maia grunted and blushed. "Wait till Kusava hears this one" the guard joked with Maia, "Did you say something?" Leon asked him sternly, "Uhh, no my lord, we shall take our leave" they bowed and left her with the King.

Maia turned around and whispered, "I will get you for this…" she leered at him as the guards walked a little further out of the room as they laughed at her leer.

Leon glanced at the guards as they left then looked at Maia and smiled softly behind his papers that he was reading on the bed.

Maia just stands there before the King while he is on the bed reading a book. "Your highness…" Maia bowed on the knee before the King. Leon never responded for a moment then he said from behind the papers he was reading on his bed. There is an awkward silence for a moment between the King and his servant, when he went on to say:

"The other day when you defended that woman, you said I could take your life" Leon said and paused for a moment, as he kept his gaze on his book, Maia looked up for a moment to look at him, then looked down, "of course…." Maia said with a saddened tone of voice, thinking that the King was going to end her life right there, "I will take you up on that offer" Leon smirked and grinned in a tender tone of voice, when Maia heard this, she grasped as she thought he was going to kill her.

"It was an honour to serve you, your Majesty… do with me as you will…." She said looking down. Leon looked at her for a moment, "I am not going to kill you" Leon said sternly. "What, really? Then what do you… mean, your highness?" Maia questioned confused.

"I will take your life from you, meaning every night I want you to come to me to my bed chambers" Leon said as he glanced at her. Maia blushed for a moment as she looked to the side, "What… is it you would like me to do for you every night, your Majesty…" Maia said in a soft tone of voice as she blushed, thinking perhaps it would be something impure he was asking her.

Leon looked up from his book and glanced at her and smiled, "I want you to read me stories from these books for the remainder of your servanthood for me…" he said simply.

When Maia heard this, she sighed a sigh of relief, "Oh… is that all?" she chuckled softly in relief. "Why? Did you expect something else perhaps?" Leon teased and asked her. Maia blushed and shook her head side to side, "Of course not, your Majesty….I will be honoured to serve you every day and every night as required…." She bowed softly. "Your majesty….?" Maia questioned, "are you objecting to a direct commandment from your King?" Leon questioned. Maia shook her head no, "Of course not, your Majesty, your wish is my command…." She bowed formally.

"One more thing…." Leon said to her as Maia got up off of the ground from bowing, "Yes?" she responded. "I want you as my direct personal servant… there is no one else that has a higher ranking position as you…. You are now the closest servant to the King than the rest…" Leon told her formally yet sternly. "My lord I don't deserve such a high honour…." She bowed formally. Leon glanced at her. "serve me with your heart, and I assure you no harm will come to you for the remainder of your servanthood to me." Leon told her kindly yet sternly.

"Understood, my lord, I pledge my life to you with all my heart and soul…." Maia said as she bowed to him on her knee before him. Leon, reaching out his hand to her, which was a sign of mercy, as she took his hand and brought her up from the ground softly.

Leon looked at her as he reached out his hand tenderly, getting up from the bed to stand before her, "Rise, my servant…" he told her tenderly, as she rose before him as he held her chin tenderly, looking into her honest eyes softly, he smiled softly and embraced her face, "I accept your allegiance to me, Miss Maia…. from now on, your life is going to be a reflection of your servanthood to me…. you must behave in a manner that is worthy of the King…." Leon said tenderly. "Understood my lord" Maia responded formally.

"Good…" Leon said and walked past her to look out of the window. There is a moment of silence for a moment between them as he turned and glanced at her, "Do you have a lover, miss Maia?" Leon asked her. "I beg your pardon, your Majesty?" Maia questioned confused and shock as she still stood in the same place.

Leon turned and looked out the window, leaning against the window seals whilst crossing his arms, "Because, by the time you go home from here, you may not have much time for anyone else but me, you did give me your life?" Leon said to her. "Of course…." Maia responded formally. "what am I going to tell Kusava?" Maia thought to herself.

Leon kept his gaze upon her, "You… didn't answer my question, miss Maia?" he asked her, as she looked at him with a serious expression on her face, "I uhh…. Well I am not sure if you would call it a relationship, my lord, however the person in my life, well, we are close…." She said looking down putting her hands together.

"If you are close, he should make you his wife if he is serious about you…." Leon said. "I… don't know what goes through his mind at times, sire….but I've just pledged my life to you, so now I am yours and yours alone…enough about me… My life is in your hands and what ever you desire from me, I am your servant, my lord…." She said tenderly and softly putting her hands together as she bowed before him.

When Leon heard this, he was both shocked and surprised as he smirked and put his fingers to his lips to think what he was going to make her do.

"Sire?" Maia questioned as she glanced at him, as Leon chuckled for a moment. "My lord?" Maia questioned him confused as to what amused him.

"You know, you sound exactly like a wife who would make vows to her husband on her wedding day" he smiled at her crossing his arms.
