Chapter 66 - Burning a Letter

Zheng and I spent the week after our wedding stuck together.

Perhaps 'stuck' was the wrong word. We chose not to leave each other's side, even as Zheng had to return to watch his men train. Or deal with new cases of crime that occurred in Ping He Prefecture.

The servants of Ping He Fu seemed to indulge in the civilians' saying that the Han Prince and his Princess Consort were a couple worthy of envy. They made sure we dressed in the same coloured robes whenever we left the Main Hall together. It may have been because of how we acted on our first day of marriage.

The night of our consummation, we didn't fall asleep until the birds began to chirp in their moments of waking. We had lain in bed, whispering and giggling in our nakedness, tracing our fingers over each other's faces.

"Wife... My fū rén," Zheng murmured after our bodies had become one for the first time. I flushed at the way he called me that, relishing in the knowledge that I was indeed his Wife.
