"Qing'er?"
I looked up from my book to look towards the sound. My eyes widened as I took in the sight of Matron Ji and Eunuch Cui at the entrance of the West Hall.
Zheng had told me he had a surprise for me the morning after I returned from sending Nian Zhen off.
"Gugu! Gonggong!" I gasped, scrambling to my feet. I had been reading in the West Hall, trying to find anything about stopping wars from military books that the Emperor had gifted the Han Prince to aid in his role as Commander.
Matron Ji stepped in, a wide grin on her face. "Child, I thought you were dead!" she admonished as I ran up to her. She took my hands, tutting.
"Your hands are so cold! You should have gotten the servants to refill your heating plate hours ago!" Her chiding filled the West Hall as Eunuch Cui shut the doors behind us, sighing.
"He Na, you're going to give her ears callouses if you don't stop," he said drily as she launched into a tirade about the long term effects of frost bite.
