I wasn't sure if I heard correctly.
Zheng nodded, a smile brightening his face as he hugged me tight.
"You're pregnant. I got your Yi Fu to send a physician into the Palace when you fainted, and tasked Nian Qu to bring Ping He's Physician in too. I couldn't trust the Palace Physicians, but I know I can trust them."
I suppressed the hope surging through me, my hands finding my torso.
"Are - are you sure?" I asked in a whisper, thinking back to all the things I did during the war.
Climbed trees, rode horses, laid on my stomach, fought like a madman...
"Our baby fought a war with us, love," Zheng confirmed, reaching his hand out and smoothed his palm over the curve of my belly.
The baby was too little along to have made my belly grow just yet, but seeing the wonder in Zheng's eyes was enough for me to confirm its truth.
"The Physicians said that this baby is doing well. Your body is stable despite the damages it has gone through," Zheng continued, voice breaking with heartache.
