"No!" Zheng and I threw ourselves forward at the same time.
Father's lips parted, eyes widening as the sword stabbed him through the stomach from behind.
"To hell with you!" Zheng roared as he slammed into the General who had yelled atop the wall, stabbing him through the throat.
The sword that had been thrust into Father's body was yanked out as Zheng dealt the killing blow upon the General.
My own sword flew out of my hands.
"Father!" I grabbed my father's body as he crumpled, holding his head as I stared down at him in stunned silence. This sword landed on the floor next to us with a soft thud.
The noise around me became muffled.
"F - Father -" I choked out, his warm body in my lap as I knelt on the floor.
My father's eyes were glazed over, lips paling as he parted his lips to speak.
I glanced down numbly to see the blood pooling on the front of his robes.
"Qing -" His warm palm touched my cheek.
My whole world was shaking, but I think it might be me trembling.
