"So do want us to leave now or after we've closed?" Sylvester finally spoke but his words surprised both Mr.Wilfred and Emma.
"Seriously, Is that all you've got to say? We're being fired without reason and you just sit there and ask for the time we're leaving? Emma's mood was aggravated because Sylvester was doing nothing about the situation.
When Sylvester did not respond to Emma's question, Emma stood up angrily and stormed out of the room.
Mr.Wilfred watched Emmanuel's back as he walked out of the room. His gaze was fixated on him until he was out of the room and he gave out a sigh. It was not his wish to fire them so suddenly without caution....but what could he do? It wasn't that he was firing them without reason like Emma had said earlier but the fact was that he couldn't possibly tell them why he was doing what he was doing.
He turned his gaze to Sylvester who stood in his seat with a blank expression on his face, which made it difficult for Mr.Wilfred to read his expression to figure out if he was mad about his decision or not, not that he could do anything about it if he was.
" You will be paid for working for me for the time you were here."Mr.Wilfred stated trying to compensate them."I'm sorry once again Sylvester."
"It's alright Mr.Wilfred.You must have your reasons." Sly said understandingly which made Mr.Wilfred blink at him as if making sure he had heard him right. He was expecting Sylvester to react in the same manner Emma did, but that reaction never came making Mr.Wilfred somehow marvel at the young man's sense of maturity.
Sylvester stood up from his chair and walked out of the room.
He knew someone was behind this.
Even before Mr.Wilfred had fired them moments ago, he had an inkling that it would happen sooner or later.
And he had only one person in mind-His father.
It was quite strange when his father had agreed to him working in the cafe so easily.
He knew his father was a stern man who cared a lot about his reputation as he belonged to the higher society.
Therefore his easy concession was a cue that he was planning something.
He was angry right now, but he kept it under wraps, waiting to confirm his suspicion.
He went inside the shop and saw Emma through the glass, standing outside. He looked pissed with the sudden decision Mr.Wilfred had made.
The sky had turned dark, threatening to pour heavy rain.
Sylvester stepped outside and went to stand by the annoyed Emma.
"Come in man, it's going to rain soon. You don't want to get drenched."
"Why do you care?"Emmanuel said and pouted his lips.
" Seriously, man...you didn't even want to work here in the first place...I literally forced you and now that we're being fired, you're pissed? Don't tell me you've grown fond of Mr.Wilfred."Sly deadpanned.
Emmanuel shot him a hot glare but Sylvester just ignored it.
"Listen, Emma...I'm pretty sure someone is behind this and the only person I can think of right now who could do this is dad." Sylvester stated seriously.
Emma, on hearing these words knitted his brows thinking about what Sly just uttered. He also thought it was unusual of Sly's dad to accept that his son was working here and the theory that he was behind what was happening seemed plausible.
"You're right, Sly, I should have thought of this before getting upset. It's obviously not the man's fault." Emma said, realizing that he had acted on impulse rather than his rationality." I guess that's the end then." he said, but his voice held a small hint of sadness which Sylvester caught onto.
At that moment, the rain began to pour heavily from the skies and the duo entered the shop, almost drenched.
Emmanuel heard his phone ring the moment they got into the shop and he took it from his pocket and picked up the call.
"What Up, man" he spoke to the person on the phone.
"Hey, Em, Are you free tonight? I mean you and Sly."It was Richie, their friend.
"I and Grace are visiting the newly opened club in West hills. We couldn't go last time so we thought of going tonight, are you in?"
Emma looked at Sly who already seemed to know who was on the phone.
" I think we're both up for it. Someone needs to soothe their raging nerves."Emma said with a smug smile while looking at Sly.
He knew Sylvester was angry right now at what was happening, especially because his dad was seemingly trying to manipulate his life, but he was just trying to contain it to prevent an outburst. He kept a cool demeanor, but Emma knew better the anger that was steaming inside Sly, waiting for the right time, or perhaps a little more irritation to explode. He, therefore, figured that going to the newly opened club with friends would help him relax his nerves, if not completely.
There were a lot of customers in the shop who were not able to go out due to the rain.
Sly and Emma decided to work till twilight since it was their last day working in the shop.
Soon dusk approached, and with a heavy heart, Mr.Wilfred bid Sly and Emma goodbye. He had made huge sales in the last two days that they had worked for him.
He didn't want to do this, but he couldn't possibly endanger the life of his precious daughter. It was a decision he had to make.
Olivia and Jael were sad that the two were leaving, and this was shown by the sullen expression they held on their faces. They had spent a few days with them but it was an amazing experience. Their hearts clenched when Sly and Emma stepped out of the shop, knowing that they wouldn't report to work the next day, nor the days after.
