Which begs the question, and another question to test. "And, if I meet God?"
Suddenly, the mood turned serious. The lax but ever present smile on Illya's face died. Her eyes showed absolute fear, and her lips quivered to tell me, "Pray."
Illya sighed. It was mortifying to see how strong [God] ranked monsters were since Illya, the Mother of Illusions didn't even dare to imagine meeting such a monster. Her reaction was correct, albeit premature. In the future, after a certain breakthrough, Illya would be able to easily handle monsters of the [God] rank, because in such a distant future, [God] and [SS] would no longer be the end to the world of adventurers.
"All you can do is pray," Illya's breath shuddered, before she tried her best to adopt her lax smile again. "Pray to your god that your death will be merciful, and that your soul manages to slip past their claws."

A flash of memory, too quick for me to discern what exactly, passed by her old eyes. They didn't say much in the game about which [God] ranked monster Illya had the unfortunate luck of meeting, but if it was like any of the [God] ranked monsters I know, a single one of them could easily raze an entire kingdom, since they weren't supposed to come out. . .yet. If they did, it'd be like putting a level 10 swordsman in a beginner village. Sure, the level 10 swordsman wasn't anything much compared to the higher levels that would come later, but in a beginner village? Oh, he was pretty much god.
Then, all of that memory died and Illya's old, mischievous expression came back. "I wouldn't worry too much about that. There's just no possible method for you to even think of meeting anything above a [Mid] ranked monster, much less something that high up on the scale."
"Of course, that is unless you're some sort of disaster-attracting, little girl!"
Illya proceeded to have a laugh about it. I could only gulp in response since I was inhabiting the body of someone who fit Illya's description to a T. They explained in the game that Willow was the incarnation of everything that was pure in the world, blah blah, which is why everything 'evil' or 'good' liked to come to him, bringing their problems with them too which is also the reason as to why he got fucked up and over multiple times throughout the game. But, I knew the devs just wanted easy sex scenes to make a quick buck.
"Haha. . ." I laughed it off. Hopefully, Raegis didn't notice the amount of sweat coming out of the palm of my hands as I stroked her head.
"Well then, we're pretty much finished with the basic explanations so there's only a few things to finish up before you can officially hop away on your little slime-killing." Illya pointed to the door outside her area.
"The door closes itself on the way out," As I opened the door to leave, Illya scrunched her nose. "Ah, I really hate transforming into her."
Whoosh
As me and Raegis got outside, I realized that the entire Society was staring at us, not to mention some of the adventurers whispering to themselves. When I channeled some chi into my ears to hear what they were talking about, I realized that my plan to stay unnoticed and undercover throughout my journey had already failed before it started.
"Did they really get invited in by the receptionist?"
"Hey, what do you reckon their potentials are?"
"Their potential?! Hah! I only wanna know about the little one over there. Ever since she came out, my sword's buzzing like a whispering bee!"
"No,no. I'm telling yah, there's something off 'bout that other one!"
I had forgotten that in the Society, to be invited in personally by the Receptionist-by Illya herself to get your Aptitudes and Adventurer Class measured was a huge deal. After all, it was well-known that Illya was an Adventurer with a platinum badge and someone who had greatly assisted in the previous Generational War against the Demon Houses, which meant she had probably seen both the rise and fall of geniuses.
And, to be personally invited in by someone like that, meant that the invitee must at least have talent/potential on the level of those great geniuses.
"Anyways! Here's your quest!" A chipper voice broke my thoughts. I turned to the now much smaller Illy-Receptionist, and looked at the scroll in her hands.
"1 unranked quest. Objective: Kill 5 Slimes. Location: Outer Edges Of the Mystical Woods (Recommended)," The receptionist read out. "Please channel your energy into this scroll so that the Society will recognize your acceptance of this quest."
Raegis looked up at the Receptionist with a questioning look. The Receptionist answered with a bright smile, "You too, little missy!"
I must say, the personality differences between the Receptionist and Illya were like night and day. While the main reason why she was even acting out this farce slipped my memory, I at least applauded how she even managed to fake her prana levels, and her emblem, more on the prana amount than her emblem, but it was still good enough.
"Let's do it together, Raegis."
"Oh right, before I forget, control your aura so that you don't attract every steel in the house."
"Okay." I could tell Raegis didn't understand why, but she trusted me enough to listen to me without asking. Holding Raegis's little hand underneath mine, we both channeled our energy into the scroll. Mine of prana and her of aura.
The scroll gleamed a quick flash of white, and silver, then it was done.
"Alright then!" The Receptionist chippered. "With this, the Society will be able to tell whether you died or not while taking this quest. Oh, but don't worry! The tracking doesn't tell us anything other than that and that's a Society's guarantee!"
"Have a great adve-Wait! I almost forgot!"
Raegis and I turned to look at the Receptionist. Was making clumsy mistakes like this a part of the act or did Illya actually forget? Thought for the bath. The bath system at the tavern I was staying in was surprisingly not bad and I knew I'd have to take a bath after getting rid of slimy, disgusting. . .slimes.
"Yes?"
"Would you like to form a party?"
Ah, how could I forget about that? The party system of the Adventurer's Society, and the main reason as to why the Society never has to worry about the many different Adventurer classes duking it out for profit gains. Okay, maybe never's a strong word but at least, they didn't fight in public.
There were 6 classes available for Adventurers, at least currently. Well, technically, only five were available since the last, and latest class, the [Enforcer] was more a class that only those recognized by the Society could obtain. A class that Raegis would later gain as she grew older, and became wiser about her origins and constitution as the Steel.
