Chereads / MINE! For The CEO / Chapter 13 - Maybe he's an Angel and a devil

Chapter 13 - Maybe he's an Angel and a devil

Chapter thirteen

"Get inside the car before I fire you," Myra could still hear his baritone voice in her head as she hopped in beside him.

Kevin looked so charismatic and handsome as he ignited the engine and reversed the car. He just gave her some money when she said she needed to solve some issues.

And now he's driving her home all of a sudden.

Why is he being nice to her today?

"Is there something on my face?" Kevin asked, pulling out of the parking lot into the road?

Myra was stunned back to reality by his voice, she cleared her throat immediately, "No sir."

"Then why were you staring at me so intensely?" His voice was soft.

"I_I," Myra found herself stammering," I just wanted to appreciate you for the money," Myra stuttered nervously.

Kevin nodded.

"Ehm, I'm not going home."

Kevin glanced at her, "Where are you going then? To your boyfriend's place?"

Myra knew he was some tough guy and would definitely not drive her to a guy's place.

"No," she nodded briefly, "I need to go to my mother's house. It's at_'.

" I know, you don't need to tell me," he said, interrupting her.

Myra nodded briefly. Their company was top-notch. Kevin would have made research and be rest assured she was a good asset before she was employed.

After a moment of silence, he asked, "How many appointments do I have for tomorrow?"

"Uhm..." Myra muttered, quickly running a mental check on the docs she revised before leaving the office. "You have 2 appointments and a meeting with the shareholders"

"Did you email the files I asked you for to the director?"

"Yes sir. And oh, the CEO sent me the sales report. I've forwarded it to your email"

"Good."

Kevin drove to a stop at the red signal of the traffic lights.

He cleared his throat meaningfully, "Christ is the son of the owner of the company. I thought you knew about him already. "

Myra looked at him and shook her head slowly, " No one told me anything."

"Ok. All I just want to say is that you should inform me whenever he tries to do the shit again. And well, it won't be happening again. You have my words," he finished off so calmly.

Myra's jaw dropped in shock. Did Kevin just indirectly apologize to her?

Unbelievable! It didn't look like it at first but then, deep down she knew it was exactly it. He was too proud to apologize directly but he made sure he got justice for her.

Kevin glanced at her when she didn't say anything. "Oh. I forgot to mention, I also dealt with the ladies that spoke rudely to you."

"Oh," Myra mouthed, clearly surprised again.

"Learn to avoid confrontations with such low-life, especially at the office. They'll only drag you to the mud with them, they're not worth any second of your time."

She smiled, "Alright sir."

"And always report such incidents to me as once."

Myra nodded, still staring at Kevin in shock.

He was being considerate today, she wished he would be like that forever. At least she won't get scared of coming to work every day.

Soon, they got to her mother's flower shop.

As soon as she got off, her brother ran out in his school uniform. "Myra!'' he screamed immediately as he saw her, rushing to envelope her in a bear hug.

Myra laughed and turned to Kevin. "Thank you so much for today sir" she bowed.

Waving as he drove off, Myra's little brother tugged at her clothes. "Sis. Who's he?"

"Alex. He's my boss"

"Oh. Wow. He looks very rich!" Alex exclaimed, walking alongside her into the shop.

"How was school today?"

Alex looked away, suddenly downcast.

"What is it?" She took a seat on the bench.

He shrugged. "The names of students that haven't completed their fees were pasted on the notice board today. The rich kids made fun of us"

"Oh. I'm so sorry. Alex" Myra smiled, patting his head, "Mom would complete your fees tomorrow, I promise."

Alex's face brightened up at once.

"Where's Mum," Myra asked after looking around, not finding her.

"She's in the backyard with the delivery man, counting the flowers. I'll go inform her that you're here" Alex replied and ran off.

Myra heaved a sigh of relief, grateful that Kevin gave her the money. She couldn't bear to see the hurt on her brother's face earlier.

"Myra dear. You're here."

Myra looked up to see her mother walking up to her, it was obvious that she was working as she was still in work clothes.

She stood up to hug her, "Yes Mum. I missed you so much"

"How're you doing?" Becky hugged briefly and quickly pulled back, removing her dirty gloves.

"I've been good Mum. I have-"

Myra was interrupted when her mum grabbed her by the shoulders, shaking her.

"Oh, dear. You've lost a lot of weight already. Are you skipping meals? You should visit more often so you'll get some nutritious food. Don't tell me you're always eating junk food" her mother ratted out in one breath, concern in her eyes.

"Mum" Myra whined. "You know it's impossible to visit too often, the transport fare and-"

"I know dear," she cut in quickly, " but please take care of your health. You must not fall sick. Do you understand?"

"I won't. Anyways, I came to hand you the money you asked for" Myra said. She pulled out the envelope and she handed three thousand dollar bills to her mother.

"That should be enough to settle Alex's school fees and take care of some other stuff"

"Thank you so much, dear. I needed to stock the freezer at home with some fresh food. Hope your boss wasn't too harsh on you? You know, asking for an advance payment when it was only two weeks since you started working for him."

Myra averted her gaze, "No. He wasn't."

Her mum mustn't know that it wasn't her salary but a gift from Kevin.

Becky would drill endlessly with all sorts of questions and advice on being cautious around rich men.

She sighed, apart from her family's needs, she also needed the money to pay rent, get some food and also change her wardrobe. Her old clothes always stood glaringly whenever she stood beside Kevin.

Myra had been forced to care for her family ever since she graduated high school and her father passed away. She glanced at Alex who was playing a video game.

"I'm sorry you have to go through so much for us. Myra" Becky broke out into a sob, "You don't have a life and dream of your own because of us. I'm sorry I failed you."

"No mum" Myra interrupted. "You didn't fail us. You're the best Mum in the world," she pulled her into a hug.

Becky nodded, wiping off her tears. "Now enough of the emotional shit. How are things going between you and Peter?" she smiled excitedly.

"We're doing great, Mum."

"And how's his business booming?"

"Uh... Well…" Myra stuttered.

"Don't tell me you're still lending him money?"

"Mum," Myra whined, "You know I have to support him."

"Support him by always giving him your hard-earned money? That's why he keeps bringing up excuses."

Becky sighed "Look Myra, I know you love him and all that but what kind of man takes from his woman all the damn time?"

"Peter isn't... Things aren't favoring him at the moment, that's why."

Becky nodded, giving up.

"Besides, he's coming over to my apartment this weekend. He's promised that we'll go see his parents soon."

"Really?"

"Oh, Mum. I can't wait to be his wife. I love him so much."

Becky nodded briefly, "I can see that."

"Anyone!" someone called at the counter, interrupting them.

"Oh. I'll go see who wants to get flowers" Becky smiled, standing up.

She'd barely gotten to the door when a man strolled in.

"Well, well. If it isn't my runaway sweetheart," he smiled, staring at Myra.

Myra whipped her head up to look at the man, looking tall and handsome in work clothes as he closed around the counter to enter the shop.

"Uncle Jonas!" Alex shrieked from behind her, running into his arms.

"Alex. Don't be so childish," Becky chided and looked up at Jonas, "Welcome Jonas," she smiled.

"Hi Mum," he smiled as he pecked her cheek.

Jonas took a few steps forward, stopping in front of Myra as he studied her from head to toe.

"Jonas," Myra gasped, "What are you doing here?"

"That's a nice way of greeting a friend you haven't seen in months," he chuckled, "You're looking as beautiful as ever, Myra."

Jonas was their next-door neighbor, he'd traveled to his hometown two months before she left home for her apartment. He was very nice and friendly. Myra saw him as an elder brother.

Myra's face broke out into a smile as she stood up to hug him.

"When did you get back?"

"About a week ago," he replied, taking his seat as Becky announced she'll return to the counter.

"I was so shocked when you walked in. What are you doing here?"

"Oh. I came to get some flowers."

"You finally got a girlfriend!" Myra squealed, "What's her name? Is she pretty?" she asked in excitement.

"I don't have a girlfriend. I needed the flowers to decorate my apartment," he shattered her hopes.

"Really?"

"Of course. If you're staying over tonight. I'll love to have dinner at your place."

"What? You're still as shameless as ever, Jonas" Myra laughed. "I need to prepare for work tomorrow, my boss won't spare me if I resume late."

"Oh. Yeah. Is he some arrogant kind of boss?"

"Of course not!" she replied, even though she knew arrogant was the exact word that described Kevin's character, "I work as a secretary."

Jonas nodded.

Becky walked back to them with some boxes, handing them over to her, "Make sure you eat properly when you get home okay?"

"I made your favorite dishes when you informed me you were going to visit."

"Thanks, Mum," Myra hugged her again.

"And here's a box of dessert for you, Jonas," she smiled, waving it off as he thanked her.

"Time to leave!" She announced and turned to look at Jonas again, " I'm sorry but I need to go now."

Jonas nodded briefly, "I will just get your contact, perhaps we can talk later."

Myra smiled. Actually, that day has been one of her luckiest days. And all that was thanks to Kevin.

Though, she still doubted who he really was. An angel or a devil?
