Crash!
I jumped up at the sudden noise that was soon followed by yelling. It was early morning and the servants were probably preparing breakfast and dropped something.
I decided to get up and get around for the day. I showered slowly because I was still half asleep, threw on a black and white striped crop top, ripped blue jeggings, and white Adidas. Then, I blow-dried my hair and brushed it.
My name is Maria Lane. My father is the one and only Dracula! You might think that's a bad thing but he's nice to me. Others, not so much. Yes, we live in a dark and creepy castle but I learned to love it. People fear me even though I am nothing but nice. My father's kind of at fault for that one. I am a vampire who believes in mates; and guess what, I get made fun of non-stop because apparently, it's a werewolf thing. It can be a vampire thing too because it's not rare for a werewolf to be mated with a human, just vampires. It's been hundreds of years since a werewolf and vampire were mates. I think it's romantic and I would love to be mated to one even though I've never seen one before because of my overprotective father. I only leave the castle for school and if I leave for any other reason I have to have 2-3 guards with me. But come on, I'm 18 for god's sake! My father told me a couple of years ago that my mother betrayed us because she fell in love with a human and that humans are not to be trusted. Him being my father, I believe him and hate humans.
I was feeling groggy this morning because I haven't fed since yesterday morning. Since I'm Dracula's daughter I have to feed on blood a lot more often than an average vampire.
"Dad! Leave the poor servant alone," I called as I walked past my father yelling at a servant who was sitting on the ground with a broken cup next to her.
"Pumpkin! Good morning my love! How did you sleep?" he asked as he ran up beside me.
I was making my way to the front door so I could go to the park for a snack. Wink, wink.
"Fine, I'm just hungry so I'm going for a hunt," I said as I kissed his wrinkled cheek and ran out the door.
I speed-ran to the park and sat on a bench to wait for my prey to show up. I was blessed with natural beauty. I was a good 5'9 with long, curly, red hair that almost reached my butt and a round face with a pointy chin. I sat there for around 10 minutes when my prey arrived.
A man probably 20 years my senior comes over and sits next to me and "yawns" leaving an arm around my shoulder.
"Hey pretty gal, what are you doing all alone," he asks and I mentally gag. I let out a squeaky giggle.
"Oh, nothing. I just needed some air so I walked here," I said in a high-pitched, innocent voice. I batted my eyelashes so I seemed even more legit.
"Do you mind walking me home kind, sir? I don't want to walk home by myself something could… happen," I say letting out a fake shiver. You have to admit, I'm good.
"Yes, of course, darling," the man says with an evil glint in his eye.
We both get up and walk along the houses and sure enough, he pushes me into an alley and pushes me up against the wall.
"It's about time damn it. I thought we were gonna walk forever. I was getting really weak and hungry," I say nonchalantly with my regular voice and hiss with my fangs showing. I laugh as he backs away scared.
"M..m..monster," he says as I leap forward and sink my fangs into his neck and suck him dry. He tastes like an old man, but it's better than nothing.
I hear a gasp from deep into the dark alley and a figure running away. I sigh and chase after the figure. They're fast but I'm faster. I leap at them and hiss when they dodge me and I miss. I look back to see a large wolf where the kid was.
I stood there in awe for a couple of moments at what was in front of me because this is the first werewolf I have ever seen. I'm so entranced that I don't even see it leaping at me until my head connects to the ground with a thump. If I wasn't a vampire I would've been knocked out cold but I'm too strong for that.
I kick the dog off of me and it whines like a lost puppy.
"Dang mutt," I murmured but I'm pretty sure it heard me because it retaliated by attacking again. It ran at me but I dodged easily causing it to fall on top of some trash cans.
"Hahaha, you really are a filthy mutt now. What an amateur," I say, hunched over laughing. When I get up I hear it howl to the sky. I stand there for a minute before hearing howl after howl after howl. The last howl I hear is like no other and it sends chills down my spine. But oddly, I'm not scared.
I decide to run because I know enough about packs to know that that was a cry for help, but I find my feet planted wanting to meet the other end of that howl.
I yell at my mind and take off in a vampire run to the castle. To my dismay, I was not followed or chased after. On my way back home, I caught myself trying to put a face on that howl.
