"Crodical, wretched beasts!"
Miss Park said as she saw something she hated with all her being growling at her and angry. She calmed herself and took a perfect samurai stance that even Mrs. Lee recognized from all the movies Son-join would make her watch with him.
They squared up against each other as she took a step forward while it took a step back. It wanted to rip her guts out but the sword made it want to run away.
"Seems like you are more intelligent than the others of your kind that I have faced through the years."
She said as she studied it.
"Someone must have sent you since you are the same one I sensed at school."
The words were accompanied by a sudden strike with her katana that was so fast that Mrs. Lee only saw the afterimage of her sword and then its whistle through the air thereafter.
The beast turned into black smoke before the sword could cut it in half and materialized some feet away from her. It wasted no time in admiring the attack and attacked using the claw it had left.
Miss Park quickly brought her sword back and blocked its attempted slash to her stomach, the sword injuring its claw as she blocked using the sharp part of her katana.
A volley of slashes followed, with the beast attacking relentlessly with its claw but it was like child's play to Miss Park. She stopped being on the defense and stepped in for another strike that was again faster than Mrs. Lee could see.
The beast let out a cry as its shoulder was slashed and backed away. It jumped onto the table as a sound of a wall crashing down came from upstairs.
Miss Park was not impressed and she thought it was time to end the short fight they had just had.
Upstairs, Mr. Woo had dashed to the beast that had picked itself up while the moon's light bouncing off of his head blinded Son-join for a couple of seconds.
Those seconds were the time it took for the wall leading to the bathroom to come crashing down. Unlike Miss Park, who could not help herself in trying to find out more about beasts even when fighting one, not showing her true strength from the get-go, when it came to beasts, Mr. Woo was merciless.
He had thrown his staff at the beast with it still giving out a yellowish glow. The beast turned into black smoke as it tried not to be impaled by the staff that went through the wall it had been standing against. While it had turned into smoke, Mr. Woo had taken something out of his old brown jacket.
It was a small envelope made from the same kind of paper that the charms he and Miss Park had used. There was a symbol on one of the sides that was red and written in a lost language.
He poured the contents of it on the palm of his hand and then blew the yellowish dust that had poured out, the move taking only a second. The dust landed on the black smoke and in an instant, it returned to its original form.
What followed would blow Son-join's mind away. Mr. Woo had used his head and rammed into the beast with so much force that they both went through the wall. The beast ended up landing on the toilet, breaking parts of it in the process as it fell headfirst into the toilet's bowl.
Son-join looked on as he saw Mr. Woo dusting off the wall's dust on his jacket. On his head were now six dots that glowed yellow that were parallel to each other, like a monk's.
The beast struggled to get up but the wind had been knocked out of it. It managed to get its head out of the toilet bowl but that was the last action it would do in its life.
A staff came down on it, beating its head in as one of its eye popped out. It died right then. It had tried to turn into black smoke again before being hit by the staff but the yellow powder on it had sparkled a little when it tried to and prevented it from turning.
Son-join was amazed and disappointed. He thought that if something was going to come after him, it should have been cooler than just black goblins that only knew how to poke bald people's heads. The Canabris Nolamine had fought in the parking lot seemed more awesome to him than the thing that had come after him.
The beast finally turned into smoke when it died and left a brownish crystal-looking stone that fell down the toilet. It was smaller than the one Nolamine had shown him but Son-join recognized it.
In the kitchen, Miss Park had had enough of studying what she conceded a small fry. Just as Mr. Woo was about to smash the beast he was facing head in, the one she was facing had jumped from the table and to the wall, trying to catch her on her blind side.
It leaped off of the wall with its mouth wide open, aiming for her neck. She swiftly turned around and in an instant was behind it. It crumbled into pieces while it was still up in the air with its mouth open.
She had slushed it 4 times in just that move. She was so fast that it could not defend itself by turning into black smoke to make the attacks go through it.
It died and left a brownish crystal stone that fell to the floor. Mrs. Lee slid down the wall as she sat down, relieved from seeing the beast disappear. She quickly stood up after seeing Son-join come in the kitchen with Mr. Woo and went to see if he was ok.
"Crodicals."
Mr. Woo said as he went to Miss Park. His staff returned to a pencil size and Miss Park's katana returned to a hairpin resembling a katana that she would always use to fasten her hair with.
She nodded after hearing Mr. Woo.
"Crodicals?"
Son-join asked as his mother took off his top to see if he was injured. He was so calm like he had gone through this many times. You could not blame her after the area had so many gangs roaming around not that long ago.
Miss Park looked at Mr. Woo like she was asking for permission to tell him something.
"There is no use hiding it from him now."
Mr. Woo said.
"Crodicals are one of the weakest beasts found in The Veil. At the same time, they are responsible for 10 percent of all the missing women and children in South Korea."
The words stopped Mrs. Lee's actions as she looked at her with surprise at what she was saying.
"Since they are amongst the weakest, it is easy for them to slip through if the conditions are right and grab those who are defenseless. We have come to understand that they evolve faster when they eat humans."
Both Mrs. Lee and Son-join gulped.
"These ones, just like many who slip through The Veil must have a master. They have been trailing you from school. Dark Witches who through rituals make a contract with such beasts so as to make them kidnap people for them. Making it easier for them to come in and out of The Veil."
"So, someone is targeting me?"
Son-join asked. Mrs. Lee was just overwhelmed by all that was happening and what she was hearing.
"You do have a rare ability, don't you?"
Mr. Woo said as he went to Mrs. Lee and gave her some water while Son-join remembered what Nolamine had told him.
Miss Park took a cell phone out and called someone.
