“A long time ago, centuries ago, there were five kingdoms, not four,” Lady Mim started.
Sybil didn’t know why, but her heart started to race as Lady Mim started talking about this other kingdom. She felt herself leaning towards the older woman, needing to know what she was going to say.
“It was a time of harmony where everyone lived in unity and peace. The rulers worked together to keep their people and their lands safe and healthy. It was a time when magic was used for the good of all. Not only that, but it was a time when everyone, everyday people included, were able to wield magic. People had the ability to control the elements of the world— fire, water, air, and earth.”
Lady Mim smiled when she talked about this time long ago, but as quickly as happiness filled her face, it was gone and replaced with a cold sadness.
