Chapter 49 - Endurance

Maria's POV

I turned around, and Vincenzo was nowhere to be found. My heart ached for a bit. I closed my eyes in sweet remembrance of last night. Vincenzo had meant every word when he said he wanted to ease my worries. 

Asides from the fact he wasn't currently on my bed, I could barely remember any concerns I had. I stretched and yawned lazily, still not in the mood to stand up from the bed. Just then, I heard a soft knock on the door.

"Vince?" I called out, but it was a woman that replied.

"Oh, come in, Zino," I said to the lovely lady. She pushed the door open and stepped in. 

With her was something that smelled good. She dropped the tray at the foot of my bed and happily said, "Vincenzo ordered breakfast to be served in bed for you. He also said to give you this," She handed me a little note, and I took it, hoping I didn't seem too eager.
