Same night.
Crossbell City. Administrative District.
"As always, thanks for the hard work you two do. Do be careful out in the cold on your way home, Elie! You too, Guy!", An upbeat female voice said, waving their hand as they sat behind the counter inside the Mayor's Office, only to wave two departing figures goodbye as a sound of a door being closed struck the inside of the building. The two departing figures said goodbye to the clerk inside the office.
Two figures soon left the Mayor's Office, only to enter the cold night of winter here in Crossbell City. Unlike other cities though, Crossbell City did not see much snow thanks to its unique topography. Yet not having any snowfall didn't stop the cold air drifting around in the evening sky. It was a clear sky out allowing the stars to be seen. A visible breath of cold air escaped from their mouths as they felt the evening chill streak across the surrounding atmosphere.
Upon a closer look, one of the two figures appeared to be a lush silver haired girl appearing thirteen years of age, who was currently wearing a sister's uniform, belonging to that of the Septian Church. One wouldn't want to underestimate this silver-haired girl though, as she openly bore a fierce looking sword and an orbal gun at her waist. This girl wasn't alone either.
A brown haired short haired man wearing a flashy jacket with a Crossbell Police Department logo on its front could be seen next to her. This brown haired man appeared to be in his early twenties, only to have turned twenty-three this year. This man was Guy Bannings, the older brother of one of main protagonists of the Trailsverse, Lloyd Bannings.
Guy was last seen back in Calvard's capital with his family to celebrate his promotion to Crossbell's Police Department First Division, the same division where it mostly handled very large or drastic cases that sprung up in Crossbell.
After that celebration, Guy returned to Crossbell while Lloyd remained in Calvard with his grandparents. It wouldn't be long until Lloyd himself ventures to Crossbell City to join Crossbell Police Academy to start his studies, which rested beyond Knox Forest in the southwest.
But upon Guy's return to Crossbell City, he became surprised to see the granddaughter of Crossbell's current mayor, Elie MacDowell, start helping with the CPD's investigations as a part time detective during her lull periods helping her Grandfather out with administrative work. Though most of the time, Elie would find herself partaking in CPD's field missions, since it helped train her body after completing her Squire training back in the Septian Church headquarters in Arteria. Guy couldn't help but have a good look at the silvery-haired girl before him.
"Thanks for the help as always, Elie. Still, you don't need to push yourself with every single field exercise we do you know.", Guy said, feeling a bit guilty for dragging Elie along with the combat exercises they do. The First Division hasn't seen much action lately apart from petty crimes thanks to Revache, so Crossbell has been in a period of peace, surprisingly. Hearing that, Elie smiled as the two began walking eastward.
"Hehe, you don't need to thank me, Guy. I want to do this. If I don't exercise my body, I feel it would turn rusty. You can drop the -sama too, Guy-san. We've been on several field exercises by this point. We are considered friends now, are we not?", Elie said as she smiled at Guy.
"Haha, but if I do that, I feel Cecile would chew my ass out, Elie. She...can get quite persuasive at times, if you catch my drift.", Guy said, scratching his head as his lips curved into a frown.
"That's a good thing though, isn't it? Cecile is such a wonderful girl from the few times I've met her. It is nice to see that you two are finally tying the knot.", Elie happily responded.
"Well, you aren't wrong there, Elie-sama. It took enough courage to present her with that ring. I'm just happy Cecile accepted.", Guy happily responded.
"I really ought to invite you two to our home for dinner one night, you've already helped me out a lot despite going on with my selfish needs.", Elie said, feeling a bit embarrassed after recalling the time she had spent thus far as cooperated with the CPD's field assignments.
"I won't be one to turn down a free meal, especially if it's coming from the mayor's granddaughter. I'm sure Cecile would love that. We just need to free up some time. Ever since that little shenanigan a couple months back at St. Ursula, the staffing there has been busier than ever.", Guy responded.
"Boy you can say that twice. I didn't think Liberl's Crown Prince would cause such a stir like that, but at least it's starting to quiet down again.", Elie responded, nodding her head as she became silent for a moment. She had caught a whiff of Naoto's trail after that initial shock of what happened, but by the time Elie arrived at the scene, Naoto was already gone. In the end her worry only grew, but she knew it wasn't good to mull on it. She knew a person like Naoto wasn't one to act on indecisiveness. She could only turn toward the present time again, and figured out the best way to spend her current time before she enrolls in Jenis Royal Academy in one and a half year's time.
Apart from assisting the Septian Church here in Crossbell, Elie found herself helping out her Grandfather, and eventually finding enough spare time to work with the CPD on several occasions. Both Elie and Guy have gone out on several field exercises by now and it was soon the dawn of the new year.
Guy and Elie saw it was only growing colder as each minute passed and it was cold enough for Elie to see her breath. Thankfully their next destination wasn't far, only a few minute walk. It was the main building of the Crossbell Police Department, which was placed right next to the Mayor's Office. Or more commonly known as CPD for short.
"At least we're back at the CPD. It is late into the evening but Jillian and Noel should still be working, so let's go turn in our progress for now.", Guy said as he looked toward Elie, seeing her two hands rub each other. Another cold breath of air escaped from her mouth.
"Yeah, let's head on in, Guy.", Elie said, acknowledging Guy with a nod of her head. It didn't take the two long to reach the door that led into the CPD building. The moment they were inside, they were blasted with a warm blast of hot air. With improving orbal technology, larger buildings like the CPD already had a central heating unit installed. Guy and Elie quickly found their bodies warming up from the cold.
Further within the building was the reception area to where the CPD welcomed guests to and far alike. It was also the same place to where they often gave out mission or status reports, thanks to the terminal that was hooked up behind the counter. Eventually, this terminal would connect to the SSS Building, offering Quests and monster slaying missions to the future SSS group. But for now, it was mainly used for the CPD and any news-related programs.
Seeing Guy and Elie enter the CPD building and walking straight for a couple minutes, two figures soon came into view, furiously typing away, only to pause what they were doing. They appeared to be two girls, one around fifteen or sixteen years of age, sporting lush and vibrant lilac colored hair, while the other seemed a bit younger, appearing thirteen. But one was not to underestimate this girl, she was well within her studies at Crossbell Police Academy. Her intellect with firearms was quickly picked up by her superiors at the academy, so they temporarily assigned this girl as a receptionist at the CPD before she would officially enter the Crossbell Guardian Force, or CGF for short at a ripe young age of fourteen.
In the future, this girl would become Lloyd's senior, as Lloyd would not enter Crossbell Police Academy in a year's time. She had a good year or two under her belt.
The girl on the right was Noel Seeker, the older of the Seeker siblings. Her younger sister, Fran Seeker, still lazed around in their parents home not too far away in East Street. It wouldn't be until later that Fran would enter the academy and become a receptionist herself. But right now, Noel was currently in her spot as part of her assigned duties at the academy. Once Noel became part of the CGF, she would stop being a receptionist here.
And to the left of Noel was Jillian Sky, Sherryl's older sister.
