Chapter 7 - Wolves

Though the page he read was chockful of information, it was not what he was looking for. Then there it was on the next page. The page contained information about the magic. The following could be assumed from what was written about it.

The magic is of the wild attribute.

Second, the magic written in the book was just mere morphing magic. But with the power of the primordial wolf, he made it into inherited magic. Made specifically for the Fenrir clan.

Although it had turned into inherited magic, it can still be used by humans. Since it originally was not meant to be turned into inherited magic. The mastery of the magic can advance faster if the one who uses it is from the Lunar family.

Third, it can be inferred from the book that the magic of the current Fenrir clan had weakened over the years.

Hence making the current batch of wolves white in color. This differed from the color of the primordial wolf. Who was grey in color.

Last. If any humans attempt were to use this magic. They would experience what the Fenrir clan calls a "Mana Explosion". This experience can be negated through the essence of those who came from the clan.

By gathering the information, Arche was then ready to start cultivating the magic. But he didn't know exactly what was the wild attribute.

"Zen, what exactly is the wild attribute?" Arche inquired as he sat down next to him.

"If I remember correctly, the wild attribute stems from beastkin's magical ability," said Zen with one hand on his chin

"Why is that?" inquired Arche with curious eyes staring at Zen.

"Hmm, some say that it is because of the perspective of humans. They thought that it was a hassle classifying each of them with their own attributes. So, in the end, they made a new one to classify all. That's the wild attribute," explained Zen.

"I see. Any tips for cultivating it faster?" once more Arche asked as he stood up.

"You'll probably want to go to the wilderness for it," answered Zen as he looked up to Arche.

"Do you have a place in mind?" Arche asked again for the 3rd time as he tapped his clothes for any dust.

"Yeah. There should be a forest if you head to your right in a straight line," responded Zen as he pointed in the direction.

"Okay thanks," appreciated Arche.

"No problem," said Zen in response.

He left Zen There. All alone as he left with the book in hand.

But before he left for the forest, he had to visit Fen to express his thanks and ask a favor.

knock knock

"Who is it?" asked Fen while he sat down on his sofa, staring deep into the fireplace.

"It's me," replied Arche as h stood still at the other side of the door.

"Come in," said Fen

creak

The door opened and Arche came back in. Fen sat there with flames reflecting off of his glasses. He grabbed a fruit and walked towards Arche.

"So? Did the book help you in any way?" inquired Fen as he bites down his fruit in hand.

"It did. It has given me ideas on how to approach this magic," answered Arche with visible beams of light coming out of his eyes.

"Well, that's great. So, what are you waiting for?" asked Fen with half his fruit left.

"I want to ask you for a favor," said Arche nervously.

swoosh

clang-!

Fen threw his fruit into the trash since it was only the core left.

"Go on," said Fen as he wipes his mouth.

"Yeah, can I have your… …essence?" asked Arche.

Fen stood there in silence. The mood had changed to an eerie one.

"Boy. Do you know what you just asked of me?" Fen asked back.

"N-No," stuttered Arche.

"Listen. What you're probably asking for is what us beastmen consider our life," explained Fen.

"O-Oh. I-I'm sorry," stuttered Arche again as he stood there moving his body nervously.

Fen stood there with his muscular arms crossed and glared at Arche. The room fell into dead silence.

"Pfft! HAHAHAHAHA," Fen burst out laughing

Arche stood there. With question marks on top of his head.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you like that," apologized Fen

Arche still stood there, with no movement. Now faced with even more confusion.

"Ah~ come with me to the back. There should be some essence left behind by our predecessors," said Fen as he waves his hand. Signaling Arche to follow him.

Arche followed Fen toward his backyard where there was a wooden shed with one door and a single window on its side facing them both. They both approached it. Fen entered without hesitation but Arche stopped.

"What's the matter?" asked Fen.

Silence once again fell. Arche was suspicious as he was nervous.

"…I see. Here, I'll open up the window," said Fen.

When Fen had opened the window, Arche saw it. There was a big cauldron with a gas-like liquid. Its color was the color of the midday sky.

"These- These are the essences of our predecessors. This whole thing should supply you with enough if not, more," exclaimed Fen.

"Why are you giving me this if these were your predecessor's lifespans?" asked Arche all confused.

"Because you're a descendant of the Lunar family. Whom we of the Fenrir clan owe a debt to," explained Fen.

"That's… …all?" asked Arche with concern written on his face.

"That's all," replied Fen straightaway.

"Okay… …thanks," thanked Arche.

Arche then continued on his merry way to the forest with two buckets of essences in hand.

When he first entered the forest, he tried on a new ability of his. The ability had awakened from the time he had that fight.

In addition, he had learned about the existence of mana from Zen. These factors helped him understand his newfound ability.

The ability he had acquired could simply be explained. The ability itself seemed to stem from his eyes. His innate talent to be precise. He could now see the flow of mana around him.

With his ability, he looked at his surroundings. He saw various colors that formed lines. As if telling the natural flow of the mana.

He followed a string of green with the book in his hand. In hopes that it leads to where it was most dense.

He followed the line into an open space, basked by the warm sun. He sat down on the grassy yet fluffy grass. It felt like he touched a sheep's wool.

He sat down and then read the next chapter of the book. The chapter itself was meant for wolves of the Fenrir clan that struggles with their morphing.

But it had the fundamentals and where to begin. It said in the first paragraph that one must first be surrounded by nature and the required attribute. Which he had already done.

For the next step, he had to stimulate certain points of the body to trigger the change needed.

So, he did. He started with the joints on his lower body. The first he tried was the two feet points. He did so with the two buckets placed on his right and his left.

He let the essence embrace and enter his body. This procedure stimulated his points. But since he wanted to do the bottom-most points first, he redirected all of that towards those points.

Once it was all near the bottom of his body, he condensed it even more. This prevents any possible waste and leakage of the essence.

Then it was the moment of truth. Can he properly stimulate it without any trouble? He couldn't.

[Argh-!]

He was hurting more than ever. But he kept on going purely by his strengthened willpower.

[Argh-! Just a little more-!]

splash

Black liquid started emanating from Arche's two feet. In a while, those liquids began turning into tar-like substances.

The smell was so bad. To the point where Arche had to go wash up at Fen's right after finishing his session.

He kept on doing this back and forth. Every day until he had stimulated all the points. To name the rest,

Ø The ankle points.

Ø The knee points.

Ø The hip points.

Ø The hand points.

Ø The wrist points.

Ø The shoulder points. Which are the right, left, and middle.

Ø The spine point.

Ø Then the head point.

After weeks of prevailing, he was finished. He was finally done with the stimulating part. Next was learning the magic. This can be learned through the magic instructor back at the training grounds.

It was actually quite simple from then on. When Arche went to the mage, he already had Fen's recommendation letter.

With that, he learned from the mage with ease. The only thing he had to do was stimulate it further with the mage's mana seeping throughout his body.

By next week, he had acquired the skill. But when he activated it, it was different in color. It was not the color of pristine white like others. He had light grey fur and his eyes had also changed color to a deep and sorrowful blue.
