Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Boss Drops

Jiang Yi POV

I took a moment to breathe and recover some qi, as if there were any beasts remaining, I would need to get out of there as fast as I could.

After a few minutes of this, I started going back to the place I lured the chicken. The reason why I left it to the higher beasts is that beasts are unable to eat creatures not of their species and/or element. You might think that they're pitiful, and that they're basically useless, but the moment they reach Reformation and gain a human form, their strength is equivalent to that of 8 average human cultivators at that realm. That's not how it works in Mortal Transcending and Immortal Realm, though.

Well, back to the situation. I got closer, and noticed the cock's carcass.. So a shounen protagonist isn't invincible, huh?

I managed to get closer, and grabbed its core, before finding somewhere safe and quiet. I wasn't trying to have a repeat of the bat situation.

After a while, I realised something. Mr. Young Elder would probably be back in a short while, so why don't I use that..

I trekked back to the 'meet-up spot', and broke the core. Wind energy started entering me, and I began to feel… nauseous?

I started vomiting, and, after a short while, woke up and noticed a few things: A) this chicken wasn't as vengeful as the bat. B) I probably shouldn't use the core of something that much higher than me, it's already gotten dark… And C) Elder Ji's still not back.

I checked what the chicken boosted my wind to, and it had reached Average Middle-Grade! Nothing else really happened, but at least I got to cut down on the amount of beasts I would need to kill…

But there was something I wanted to test whilst waiting. You see, remember how I mentioned that feeling, the one where I felt like I could use 'normal' wind? I was going to focus on that now.

1st try, fail.

2nd try, fail.

3rd try, fail.

20th try, inadequate.

54th try, inadequate but improving.

On my 70th try, it had reached the afternoon, and I was already quite bored, and wasn't focusing enough on it. I used all my frustration and effort on this last try, and my wind qi had speckles of.. flames?

I grinned.

'Variants are bullshit, and I love it!'

A/N: I feel like dropping this or putting this on temp hiatus, even if I kinda like it…. I have no plan for this story, and I keep giving my mc bullshit powers, so just comment any ideas you have.

Elder Ji POV

I'd finally gotten the materials I'd needed, and was about to get Jiang Yi, when I noticed him out of the area I had told him to be in, and was fighting a chicken. Well, I'll go grab some popcorn, this'll be a nice show. He forced it to stay on the ground with his wind, before imbuing his hand with Qi and punching the shit outta it. The chicken covered part of itself with flames, acting like En*ea*or(MHA) without the child abuse, and then he paused. Mr Chicken used this time to ready an attack, aiming it at Jiang Yi, and although he dodged, it still hit him. He managed to freeze it with ice-wind though, and I was about to step in and congratulate him, when I noticed something. The chicken was about to evolve. Well, lucky Jiang Yi. He's basically 2xed his rewards with no effort. He started strolling leisurely to his target, when, all of a sudden, it broke out and I saw its new form. Standing 7 feet tall, with golden-yellow skin, blood-red eyes and a thirst for vengeance, this thing was a GIANT threat. How was he gonna get outta this one?

He dodged its 'flame charge', before taunting it and leading it to the center. Oh, I see his plan. Smart kid. If he leads it to the middle and makes a loud sound, and then leaves, he could claim the rewards later..

A short while later, nothing really eventful happened, besides him killing a light snake. After a while of circulating his technique, he went back to the cock's corpse and claimed his rewards. He vomited, and started trying to run into the resting places of animals, the chicken trying to get him killed. I erected a barrier around him, stopping him from leaving. After a while, the chicken fell asleep, so I broke the barrier. A little while later, he woke up, and after a while, used A FLAME-WIND VARIANT? Yep, this kid's a cliche protagonist. So, what's next? A young master? Fucking hell, I hate these tropes, but the ability to cultivate was the only thing stopping me from killing myself and hoping for a better life, or eternal rest. Oh, and the fact that I have a stupidly OP system..
