'Don't call me names, Kassy.'
'I won't. I'm going in now before I catch a cold talking to you.' I said and turned around.
Everyone at the dining table still looked happy but I could not share in their joy. I was feeling the same way Geoge felt when I asked him to marry Grace, his ex-girlfriend. I was feeling rejected and unwanted.
I knew I needed some kind of distraction. I needed to start a conversation with someone about anything but my family and our problems.
'Kassy, wait.' She said and held my wrist.
I hated that physical contact so much. I wanted to hit her but instead, I stood there, enjoying the warmth of her palm around my wrist.
'What is it?' I asked.
'I'm just really sorry about everything, you know? I just wish things turned out better with us.'
