"You have two coins. Choosing the first side of the coin meant losing three people you care about the most in the world. Choosing the second side of the coin meant going into a battle unprepared and without enough resources." Ricky said.
With the analogy that Ricky explained, Elio tried to think about what stands to lose when he chose either decision.
First, he thought about Matteo and the connection they have always shared since childhood. Even though Elio was always considered the odd one out, still Matteo was that brother he could always turn to anytime you needed to learn something behind their father's knowledge. When Dominic had gotten angry about Elio not knowing how to ride a bicycle and also a bike, Matteo committed himself to teach Elio until he could ride the bicycle and also became the best at bike racing. There are also some other moments when Matteo came through for Elio at his own expense.
