Jeff didn't hear any answer from the doctor but he could guess correctly what the reply was. He removed his hands from the doorknob and took a step back. Not his woman, he thought and shook his head in denial. Life wouldn't be so cruel to him, he thought again. At first, he thought about getting away from the hospital and pretending like he didn't know anything. But when his feet had refused to move away, he knew that he couldn't bear to leave the lady he loves alone when she needed his support most. He moved to the door and threw it open, surprising everyone in the room.
"Jeff?" Sandra asked in a surprised tone. He didn't fail to notice how low her voice was and how it felt like he had struggled to get the words out.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Jeff asked her. He moved closer to her and held her hands in his despite how cold the hand was.
"I'm sorry but I didn't think that it was important," Sandra struggled to say.
