Eight years ago...
Rosie watched the ball fall straight into the hoop, bored out of her mind. Sitting forward, she rested her chin on her palm, elbow on her knee, and let out a soft yawn. She didn't use to watch basketball games before she came to this school, didn't even know much about the sport. But everything changed since Cupid shot her friend, Lizzie, with an arrow straight through the heart.
Lizzie had hearts for eyes as she kept her gaze on the cute boy currently bouncing the ball on the court, the reason behind why they were sitting on the bleachers in the gym and the reason behind why her friend kept dragging her to watch the basketball club practice. Usually, Rosie let her friend get her way because life was easier that way. But she was bored, she was restless and the rich, clingy heat in the gym was making her long for escape.
"I forgot my notebook in the classroom, Lizzie," Rosie told her. "I'll just go get it, alright?"
