Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Olaf and Sigurd journeyed back back to the farm.

In the farm Astrid is milking the goats in the milking shed. One of the goat's is giving her trouble. She tries to coax it gently.

Then Gyda comes rushing in, looking frightened.

Astrid knows there is a problem and checks it out and sees two people and offers them to leave, but they refuse and threaten her so she takes her sword and goes to fight and kills them easily as she was known as the best shield maiden in Norway.

Then she clears the body's and comforts her daughter.

While Olaf takes a detour to a majestic but also strange sight greets them. In the distance is the golden dome of the temple. It's surrounded on three sides by a grove of trees which are remarkable, even at this distance, because there are very few other trees on this high plateau.

But dotted around there are some large earth mounds, clearly man made; burial mounds, but now covered in grass. And also huge piles of stones. Sigurd knows what they are and doesn't have to ask.

The whole vista is strange, haunting.

Olaf shows the gods to Sigurd and explains to him about them and tells him that their family are direct descendants of Odin and that they are gifted,he can see in his son eyes and tells him he will have a great destiny. They leave afterwards and soon arrive at their farm, where Astrid and Olaf talk about the journey that Olaf took and how things went and Olaf talking about the boat and how close he is to for filling his destiny to find land in the west and asked his wife if anything happen to which she replied that nothing happened to which Olaf accepted. After they made love to each other.

The next day come with the arrival of Harold and he and Olaf talk about the plans and the recruitment when it would begin to which Olaf says he has a plan and get up to take a leak leaving Harold and Astrid to talk about the past up to Olaf returns and sees the look in Harold eyes after entering Astrid leaves and Olaf looks to Harold and warns him to not get any ideas about his wives to which Harold response saying he had non and they come to an agreement.

Sigurd lies in his narrow bed, still awake.

He can hear the adult conversations in the next room. His hand still grips the arm-ring he's been given, for he will never let it go.

When he closes his eyes he sees the statue of Odin. Odin is staring at him with his one eye. But the eye is alive. And his gaze is terrible. It bores into you.
