Jessie's phone rang as she walked to the car with Min Jun. She had the overwhelming sensation that someone was watching her, and she scanned her surroundings as she answered the phone.
"Hello."
"Jessie, you better come quick."
"Jakara, what's wrong?"
"The health inspectors are here. They're tearing the place apart."
Jessie froze. This wasn't the first time the bakery had been inspected. It was an annual process, but they usually called ahead to set up a time to visit. Not once had they had a serious violation. And never would she describe the process as tearing the place apart.
"Wait a minute. Health inspectors? There's more than one?" In the background, Jessie could hear what sounded like glass breaking, and her breath caught in her throat. "I'll be right there."
