Through this, Urokodaki learned the last two forms of Water Breathing from Tanjiro. Their roles were reversed, with Tanjiro becoming the teacher and Urokodaki the student.
It wouldn't be wrong for Urokodaki to call Tanjiro his teacher.

If I saw another breathing style, I could learn and probably create a new form for it. Today is the day I attend the Final Selection. I hope to see you again. When we meet next, I will be a Hashira," Tanjiro said with a smile, waving at Urokodaki.
There were no further words as Tanjiro departed for Mount Fujikasane, where the Final Selection would be held. The brief exchange between them was enough to convey their mutual respect and intentions.
During the month, Tanjiro received his Nichirin Sword. When he picked it up for the first time and activated his breathing style, the sword turned into a pure white Nichirin Sword.
Tanjiro had expected that using both Sun Breathing and Water Breathing would cause the Nichirin Sword to shift through colors like blue, black, and red. However, he was surprised to find it turned pure white, a color he hadn't anticipated. This was the first time he had seen a white Nichirin Sword, and even Urokodaki admitted it was a first for him as well.
Initially, they investigated the unusual color but found no conclusive results. Each time Tanjiro used Sun Breathing, a sun design would appear near the hilt, and intense heat would radiate from the blade. When using Water Breathing, a blue line would appear with surrounding moisture forming around the blade.
Seeing these phenomena, Tanjiro and Urokodaki decided not to pursue further investigation. Instead, Tanjiro focused on testing the Nichirin Sword's effectiveness. He found that he could cut through a boulder with a single slash, though he had yet to test it on a demon.
After receiving his Nichirin Sword, Tanjiro decided to distribute his 228 AP. As improving his stats was becoming increasingly difficult, he allocated his points across all stats except luck. He put 50 points into strength, 45 into constitution, 45 into dexterity and agility, 12 into wisdom, and 13 into both charm and intelligence.

After that day, Tanjiro tested his agility by making the trip home. It only took him a few hours to reach Mount Kumotori. He stayed with his family for a few days, and when he decided to return, Tanjuro gave him the hanafuda earrings—an heirloom passed down through generations of the Kamado family as a tradition.
From then on, Tanjiro visited his family every night and returned to Mount Sagiri when he needed to train. Sometimes, he would stay with his family for a few days before heading back.
As Tanjiro traveled to Mount Fujikasane for the Final Selection, he couldn't disclose the true purpose of his journey to his family. Instead, he told them he would be away for a week or two because he had some important matters to attend to.

After what felt like hours, Kagaya concluded his speech. The participants, driven by anger and a deep-seated hatred for demons, clenched their teeth, their eyes glowing red with bloodlust. Kagaya's charisma had motivated them, fueling their readiness to fight.
Some of the demon slayers noticed Tanjiro and his unusual appearance. Standing at 4 feet tall, he was notably tall for a 3-year-old. His Nichirin Sword was strapped to his side, and he wore a kimono with a white and blue flower design that Kei had given him. Tanjiro was likely the youngest among the participants, who ranged in age from 13 to 20 years old.
Tanjiro's unique aura set him apart from the other participants. He projected an intimidating presence, one that seemed capable of decapitating anyone with a single swing of his sword. Yet, he also radiated a peaceful vibe that made him approachable, creating a confusing push and pull effect. The other demon slayers were uncertain whether to approach him or not.
As they contemplated, Kagaya officially began the Final Selection, marking the start of the first day of survival.
With a burst of speed, Tanjiro was the first to enter the stage and immediately detected an extremely sinister stench that heightened his anticipation to cut down the demons. However, the demons were all hiding in caves due to the daylight, which was also why Kagaya was the host.
This was not a problem for Tanjiro, as he hunted down every demon he encountered, leaving only the weakest ones for the other participants.

He wanted to assess their strength and determine if they were truly worthy of being demon slayers. While he was willing to help and guide those who showed potential, he was not foolish enough to let them waste their talents by risking their lives unnecessarily. If these two participants proved to be weak-willed, he would offer them the chance to quit before they met a grim fate.
While watching, Tanjiro memorized their breathing styles and acquired both Wind and Flame Breathing techniques in one go.
Seeing that they were struggling against the demon and were prepared to fight to the death, Tanjiro decided to intervene. The two demon slayers were shocked and petrified by the sudden appearance of a Water Breathing user. They hadn't even noticed Tanjiro's approach before the demon was reduced to multiple pieces.
"Who are you?" demanded the Flame Breathing user, tensing up and preparing to strike.
The Wind Breathing user was also on guard, ready to use his sword against Tanjiro. Both were wary, unsure whether Tanjiro was a demon or another demon slayer like themselves.
"Heyaa, I am Tanjiro Kamado, at your service," Tanjiro replied with a friendly smile.
