Chapter 14 - Chapter 13: Creation - Made in Her Image

In the beginning, there was nothing but darkness and an obscured storm of light. A spirit without a body grew curious and noticed the sounds of the unknown. Its creations gave it its identity, and it took on a form of its own. Wars were fought, and many factions struggled for dominion over the worlds that she had created. They say that humans were made in her image, but it was the opposite. God observed the most prominent species on Earth, and took on the form of a human, but she was not satisfied. She took on that female form to address her followers, but for the longest time, most thought she was male. She created angels to help moderate the evergrowing universe. She learned from her most versatile creation, and saw the future that was yet to unfold. For millenia, she had the mind of a child, but eventually, she grew and matured as God. By this age of Evanescent Bloodlines, she had become a mirror of the humans she created. Her female form a reflection of the first humans to walk the Earth.

She sat in a golden throne emblazoned with jewels, and watched a television that showed current events on Earth. She sighed and complained, "Oh, I see, another white man has taken office in the United States. Their people are suffering or thriving as usual. The Catholic Church is doing what it usually does. Spreading my word to everyone. Manestella has been much happier since he found a soulmate, but I wish he would talk to me. Maybe if I allow people of the LGBTQA+ community to be respected and get into heaven, he will finally bat an eye in my direction. It all started when one of my followers seemed to have a bias because of Gabriel. He's such a dick. He wrote in every religion's holy text as a joke, and now most of the world is homophobic. They don't all seem to be in agreement about equal rights, but even when I smite the evildoers who oppose them, nobody gets the message." She sighed once more and added, "My job never ends. And to be honest, I'm kinda sick of answering every single prayer that comes my way. And when I keep to myself for like, what, a few decades, everyone says 'God has abandoned us.' And some people don't believe in me because of some bad experience in their life. I can't get around to everyone. The population is way too big; those humans have discovered medicine and don't pray to me for forgiveness and welfare anymore. Natess keeps trolling me by helping humans have another scientific breakthrough, and when I try to communicate with my believers to give them a revelation, it's just passed off as mental illness. I miss the days when the population was only in the thousands."

Gabriel rushed into God's office and said urgently, "Mother, there's trouble!"

God asked, annoyed, "What could it be this this?"

She followed Gabriel to the break room. "Now, what's the problem, my child?"

The archangel pointed at the coffee maker and said, "The coffee pot is broken. Can you fix it?"

God face-palmed and said begrudgingly, "I told you guys not to indulge in the creations of humans. Where are those divine energy drink I put in the fridge?"

"They're too weak for my taste."

"I can give you a stronger version if you need one."

"They also tasted too bland."

"That's your problem? Flavor?"

"Yes."

"Our job isn't to have fun. It's to protect this world from evil."

Gabriel put his head down and said angrily, "Fine. You know what? I should join Manestella. He's way more fun than you."

"He tortures his own kind and punishes human souls, in hopes of redeeming them. What's fun about inflicting pain on others?"

"At least I get to have for freedom in the workplace."

God thought while staring Gabriel in the eyes, "I tried to teach my children compassion and love, but all of that smiting of humans and violence I caused in the past turned them into a bunch of sadists—no better than the demons we oppose."

Gabriel walked away as God sighed. The other angels in the break room look at Go with shock, and then walk away.

Only two angels left in the room. God asked Michael with a glare, "What are you murmuring about?"

"Nothing," said Michael with a blank and startled face.

God face-palmed again and said, "Never mind."

As she walked out, Michael whispered to Raphael, "So, do you want to go down to Earth. There's a crazy party going on in Los Angeles."

Raphael responded, "Sure. Let me bring the divine energy drinks. We can watch some random human teenager chug them until they have a heart attack."

Michael said, "Be sure to heal them, so we don't get suspected of interfering with the mortal world."

"Yeah," agreed Raphael.

As she walked through the central town of Stella, angels chattered at every street corner. One female angel said to God, "You've got to try this drink."

A male angel asked God, "Hey Mom, can you help the Patriots win?"

Another male angel said loudly, "Yo Mother! You should try these Doritos!"

God politely said to all of them as she walked past them, "No, thank you."

A female angel said to another, "Mom sure has become really boring."

The other said, "Yeah, remember her emo phase?"

"She killed one-fourth of the population. That was insane."

"Remember when she added magic to the world as a social experiment?"

"Now so many people have a god complex. They really think they are gods when they were given little slivers of power by 'the god.'"

"Wanna go have a magic battle with some human middle-school kids?"

"Yeah, for sure. Let's go."

God walked past the gossiping angels. A male angel said to another, "Wow. She's been pretty lenient on angels who leave Heaven without permission lately."

"It's because there's a shortage of pure-blooded angels and she doesn't want to lose any more followers."

"Mom's coming this way. Quick. Act natural."

God walked past them as well. Her patience dwindling further. She stopped walking and took a seat on a park bench. "Where did I go wrong with them?" muttered God as she thought back on the past. "I really want to take back my status as the just and merciful, but strict leader of heaven. But these days, my status is a joke to many. Maybe I should take back my followers from hell. No, that would be unbecoming of a merciful god—plus, I would most likely lose many of the pureblooded angels I have left. What should I do?"

She had a look of realization and continued, "I've got it, I'll bring the souls of the dead from another timeline to my kingdom and reincarnate them as pureblooded angels. I don't have the strength to create new angel souls anymore. I'll bring back the purity of my bloodline by force."
