Chapter 11 - Fighting with a meat shield?

First, Basmon had to learn Vatue's skills. Earlier, when Vatue had become his subordinate, the system had explained something to Basmon. Apparently, all magic creatures have skills, just like items. They are born from mana forming and creating an egg, which then can hatch into a random magical creature. If multiple of one magic creature species meet, they can reproduce, but the bloodline will thin out quickly, causing them to become basic wild animals. This is why Magic Creatures are so rare, especially considering that mana rarely gathers enough for that without artificial interference.

(AN: Artificial Interference will be a key plot point later on, Keep it in mind. Love Yall <3)

After pondering this, Basmon also realized that items must be formed the same way in the 'Item World', but he would have to investigate more about that later.

After doing this, he asked Vatue about his skills. 'Hey... Vatue? Could you tell me your skills?'

"Hmm? Dada? Ok... I think my skills are; Rage, Dash, and... Aura Domination?" Vatue told Basmon, a confused look in his eye. Basmon, not knowing what these skills did, asked the system for a description.

'What? These skills seem useful... But a new stat type? Aura? I guess I'll have to ask the system...' Basmon thought.

'Really?' Basmon wondered, then asked Vatue about this. 'Vatue... Do you know what aura and how much you have?' Basmon asked Vatue telepathically.

"Yes, dada. Aura is my Aura. I have 160 Aura. And 90 Mana. But that will get bigger as I grow older and kill more things!!!" Vatue responded.

'What... Well, that gave me almost no information on WHAT aura is... At least I know how much Aura he has... And how to make him stronger, I guess...' Basmon thought, still not sure what Aura was.

'Well, can you show me your Aura?' Basmon asked Vatue.

"Sure!!! Anything for dada!" Vatue said as a red light seemed to spread around the small camp. Suddenly, a huge pressure pressed down on Basmon, Shoving him to the ground, even with the help of bow control.

Under that huge pressure, bow control FINALLY leveled up, causing Basmon to be able to move around under this pressure, albeit slowly and wobbling. Basmon then tried to summon his spectral body, but...

<1 Damage taken, died>

It instantly died under the pressure. After trying to move around in what felt like a huge blanket of jello, Basmon finally had Vatue restrain his Aura.

"Wacha think, dada?" Vatue asked Basmon excitedly.

'You did splendidly. Now, can you show me you shaping your aura???' Basmon asked.

"Yes!!! I love doing that!" Vatue said gaily, summoning two axes in his hand. This time, there was no pressure, but in Vatues right and left hand, there were large, blood-red axes. They felt extremely threatening and looked like they wanted blood.

Basmon examined them for a bit and tried to have Vatue hand them to him, but Vatue had to explain that it is part of him, and he can't let go of it. He can only 'Retract' the weapons.

After doing this, Basmon and Vatue started to think of ways they could fight together.

Vatue, as a young child, had no clue what to do, so just followed Basmon's orders.

After a bit of experimenting, they ended up choosing to do the obvious, and have Vatue activate dash at the start of a battle, running into the opponent, then activate Rage, and then have Basmon shoot at the opponent from behind Vatue, using Arrow Bounce and teleport per to not hit Vatue. Now, the only thing left was to try this strategy.

They decided to start looking for some sort of stronger creature to attack, as there was no way this strategy could be tested usefully on a bird.

After wandering around the forest for a bit, they heard some large crashing off in the distance, along with loud roars. Basmon summonsed the spectral body, just in case. Basmon and Vatue then decided to follow the noise, and after a bit of traveling, with both Basmon and Vatue running, Basmon cast invisibility on both of them, as they had gotten so close they could feel the earth shake.

Soon, they saw large flashes of light, and once they were close enough, they climbed up into a tree.

'Look! Dada! Two Big monsters are fighting!' Vatue said, using Basmon and his own telepathic link for the first time.

'Yep... Let's look and see who wins...' Basmon said, and they both started to watch.

In the distance, 2 huge animals were fighting. One was a large white snake, and the other an elephant.

'Look! The snake is going to kill the elephant!' Vatue said excitedly.

'I don't know about that, look at the elephant. It looks like it's about to stomp on the snake!' Basmon responded, thinking the elephant might kill the snake before the snake could wrap itself around the elephant.

'No! Look! The snake did some sort of slithering thing and dodged! Now it will strangle the elephant!' Vatue said, cheerful because he was right.

'Wait... I think the elephant may have a trump card...' Basmon said.

Sure enough, at the last second, the elephant's tusks started to grow out and poke at the big snake. The snake would not let go though and soon had its eyes poked out. Luckily for it, most snakes do not rely on vision but their tongue. The snake's split tongue kept sticking out of its mouth, as it was heavily relying on it to sense the surroundings. After a bit more stomping and struggling from the elephant, it collapsed onto the ground, dead. The snake slithered out from under it, hissing around. It then started to try and swallow the elephant.

Suddenly, a loud roar was heard, as Vatue charged at the snake. Basmon had made the split-second decision to try and kill the snake, as it was heavily injured. As a magical creature, one of the 2 in the forest, it usually would easily be able to beat Basmon even if Vatue sacrificed himself. But now, it was on the verge of death.

"Hisssss..." The white snake, stained with blue blood, hissed, seemingly trying to threaten off Vatue. However, Vatue had already activated dash and Rage, losing all common sense. He started wildly hacking at the snake with his large, blood-red axes. They did not do much damage, but his aura was slightly suppressing the snake.

Behind Vatue, an arrow flew a bit above the snake, then was suddenly redirected towards the back of the snake, due to Basmon using Arrow Bounce. He then redirected it one more time, so it would be facing the right way, then, right before the arrow hit the snake, Basmon teleported it just a bit away from the snake's mouth. The snake had just opened its mouth to hiss, so the arrow flew right into its tongue, causing it to flail around.

The snake seemed extremely desperate, and around it, 8 large balls of light appeared, then flew towards Vatue. They hit him, causing a lot of blood to spew out, but Vatue did not even notice and just kept hacking at the snake.

Behind Vatue, Basmon once more nocked an arrow, but this time it was an ice arrow. He then used power shot, then released it towards the snake, flying faster than any other shot Basmon had ever released. It slammed into the side of the snake's white body, ice immediately covering the snake starting from where the arrow hit.

Basmon was pretty low on mana now, even with his fast regeneration. Using the last of his mana, he jumped out towards the snake, and the moment he was in the right position, he made sure his feet stayed forward, with his weight on his left foot, and released another arrow with power shot, right towards the snake's eye. Because he was running and he was not super experienced with this type of shooting, he wasn't really expecting the arrow to hit, however, he was lucky, and it hit the snake dead in the eye, piercing its brain.

Basmon ignored the system notifications for now, as he wanted to go check on Vatue quickly, as he was bleeding on the ground. He looked like he was almost dead. Basmon tried shaking him and getting him up, but failed. He started to panic, so he decided he had to buy something to heal him which he had seen in the system shop earlier.

'System! Buy Blessing: Heal: 60TP' Basmon thought, panicking as Vatue looked on the verge of death.

'Shoot! I'm out of mana!' Basmon thought, panicking. He started using up every mana he regenerated, trying to just keep Vatue alive for a bit longer.

After about 3 hours, Basmon decided Vatue was stable enough to start saving up mana so he could fully heal Vatue in one go, not just keep him on the edge of death. After 40 minutes, Basmon decided to use the 60 mana he had saved up, and cast heal again. He only had 60 mana as he had used 20 mana earlier just to make sure Vatue was alive.

Vatue slowly sat up. The wounds on him slowly closed up, but not entirely. Even with 60 mana, it was not enough to fully heal Vatue up.

Over the next couple of days, with Basmon healing him periodically and Vatues own unnaturally high regeneration, Vatue had healed a lot. Across his face and body, however, his skin showed many clear scars, and across his eye a huge one. This was actually what took the longest to heal, as apparently regenerating an eye takes over 10 thousand mana. Who would have guessed?
