Carl and Ivan glanced at each other from time to time before looking back at the rear-view mirror to see Lev and Titania's reaction. As part of the Terean Authorities, even their car exuded some form of heaviness to it. Even an innocent person would feel uneasy being in a car such as this.
And yet, Lev and Titania were having the time of their lives with their 'ooh's' and 'aah's' while the floating car passed through the invisible highways in mid-air. They were no less fascinated by the technology. "These guys are weird," Carl commented, almost whispering what he just said.
"No shoot, sherlock," Ivan responded, one of his eyebrows raised. "Are they really unregistered? I mean, why were we instructed to bring them to the Council?"
"Don't ask questions... but didn't you hear?" Carl's voice seemed to get even quieter every time he spoke. This time, his voice could hardly be heard, overlapping with the soft whirring sound of the floating car's engine.
"Hear what?"
"I think... that guy's an important figure. There are rumors that there are traces of his identity in the archives... and yet, all of them are deleted."
"Is he a prince or something?"
"Who knows,"
"We can hear you over here, you know," Lev called out, making Carl and Ivan flinch in response. He and Titania seemed to be enjoying the sights that they figured they won't listen in on their conversation. Turns out their hunch was wrong. Unbeknownst to them, Lev had been listening in since the start. Of course, he's still enjoying the scenery by the floating car's side windows, but that didn't distract him from eavesdropping.
"Who are you, really?" Carl asked out of the blue, to which Lev responded with a shrug.
"See? No one can act like that and get away with it in the Council." Carl continued, making Ivan believe that Lev really is an important figure.
As to why Lev responded in a suspicious manner. It was true that he didn't know what his real identity is. After all, he only had his memories from his past life and not the life he led in this era. He did hear from Benedict that his grandparents are great figures behind the Council but he doesn't know any details of it. His identity is somewhat muddled as well. At one point, he overheard one of the staff in their space cruiser, calling him an aberrant since his size points to the Gargantuan Class, and yet he's registered as a Carnage Class. Based on his readings, it's impossible for a person to have two classes at once. And throughout history, people tried to interbreed classes but it only resulted in the baby dying before they could be born.
That's why there are only specific classes, and one cannot marry nor have a child with someone of another class. Because if they were to do so, it would only end up in a disaster, as per history recounted.
Of course, Lev believed that he really is of the Carnage Class. His size may be due to his genes evolving or something. That's the only explanation he could derive based on what he overheard.
After a few hours of travel, the group finally arrived at one of the tallest buildings on Main Earth. This is the Headquarters of the Council, located in the very center of Earth. In history, this part of the Main Earth is called the Middle East, but now it's simply called the Council Headquarters.
"We're here," Carl announced as he glanced once again by the rearview mirror. Lev and Titania were still full of energy after all those hours of travel. They probably imprinted all the sights in their memory and etched them in their hearts since their gazes never left the windows.
"Oh, so this is the Council, huh. Looks pretty neat." Lev continued.
The Council Headquarters reminded Lev of the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building all at once since the vibe was a mixture of both. The building reached towards the skies. Lev could tell that even space cruisers could see the tip of the Council Headquarters if they passed by Main Earth on their travels. That's just how tall the Council Headquarters is.
"Let's head inside," Carl told them.
"Wait, you're part of the Terean Authorities, right? Then why did you personally bring us here instead of reporting back to your station or something first?" Lev asked.
"This guy... you're quite knowledgeable in Main Earth laws, huh." Carl snickered. "You know what, I'm quite convinced that you're a special figure, not just an unregistered one."
"Yeah," Ivan seconded.
"Don't worry though. Allow me to reintroduce myself. I'm Carl Evergreen, Chief of Terean Authorities." Carl pointed out. "Now you know the reason why we could escape those certain procedures, right?
"And I'm Ivan Henderson, Deputy Chief of Terean Authorities." Ivan backed up. "I hope that clarifies things a little bit."
"Yup, now I'm convinced. I wonder why they sent the two of you just to pick us up for Registration though. I mean, anyone could've done it... and don't you have better things to do in your Station?"
As usual, Titania had no idea what Lev was talking about. Unlike him, Titania was totally unfamiliar with the laws of the land. The only reason why she never broke free until now was that she fully trusted Lev and she decided to follow him around since she doesn't know anything.
"Yeah, business isn't booming lately. It would've been nice if there are criminals to chase around. But due to the advanced technology, it's easy to track someone committing common crimes. And well... those high-profile criminals are getting better at their profession. It became harder for us to lure them into prison." Carl pointed out. "In short, yes, we don't really have better things to do."
"I see, that's quite unfortunate," Lev said. He wasn't surprised in the least bit. After all, everything is as he had expected to see in an advanced civilization.
"Well then, let's head inside." Ivan slightly bowed as he gestured for everyone to walk up the flight of steps that led to the entrance of the Council Headquarters.
