Wyatt Wright leaned forward slightly, hugging her tightly. He had been on the road all day, his voice husky, "Rae, happy birthday."
She hummed in response, her hands gradually rising from his waist to wrap around his neck, skimming over his jawline, her fingertips brushing beneath his eyes.
He looked very tired.
He held her hand, gently kissing her fingers, "I'm sorry, I didn't have time to prepare a birthday gift for you."
"No need for a gift, you've already made my birthday wish come true."
She was already very content.
Wyatt held her close, lowering his head, his chin resting on her shoulder, part of his body weight pressing down on her.
She could feel his body tensing.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, just a bit tired."
Rae Bennett let go of him, "Then you should go sleep for a while."
Wyatt shook his head, saw the cake on the table, walked over, and tried a bite with a plastic fork.
"Rae, I have to go out again."
Rae Bennett was slightly stunned, then nodded, "Mhm."
