This time was different.
It was Wyatt Wright's first long trip since he and Rae Bennett got their marriage certificate. Perhaps because he hadn't left for such a long time, Rae had grown accustomed to having him around, and she was finding it hard to adjust to the separation.
In half a day, her emotions had been all over the place, and she felt like she might have developed a condition called separation anxiety.
At first, she had been very understanding, speaking to Wyatt in warm, gentle tones, full of reminders and instructions.
"You must be careful out there."
Wyatt had agreed.
She continued, "Now that you have a family, don't take risks carelessly."
Wyatt had agreed to that too.
Feeling somewhat empty-headed, she thought for a moment and added, "Make sure to sleep well, eat well, and, if possible, check in with me every day."
Wyatt agreed to everything, he went along with whatever she said.
He pulled the car over to the side of the road to listen to her properly.
