Of course she knew Caleb Baker well enough to recognize that something was off in his voice.
It lacked his usual exuberance.
A laugh came from Caleb on the other end of the phone, still carrying a note of weariness, his voice trembling slightly, "What could possibly be wrong with me? I'm just a bit tired since I haven't had much rest these past few days, don't overthink it."
Yvonne Finley still furrowed her brows in doubt, "What on earth are you doing over there?"
"It's just some work-related stuff, nothing serious. How about you? Are you okay?"
After all, Eden was new to Yvonne, having spent most of her life elsewhere. He found himself genuinely concerned over how well she'd adjust in his absence.
Yvonne looked up at the cold moon hanging in the tree branches. The air around her was warm, the breeze gentle. It was comfortable.
"I'm doing quite well."
She paused before asking, "When are you coming back?"
She was never the clingy type before all this.
