Chereads / Regressing After Isekai / Chapter 5 - Death Log

Chapter 5 - Death Log

What proceeded after waking in the same room for the fifth time can only be described as a fever dream, except, that fever dream didn't stop until my eighteenth try and by then, I was drained of the person that I used to be. In each of my lives, something wrong happened, and this drove me insane. As the one who witnessed these lives, I shall explain them all simply.

Life #5:

Upon waking up, I refused all help that could come from the castle for fear of being betrayed by someone again. After that, I proceeded to fight Demonic Beasts by myself, but it turns out my destiny had someone else in store for me as I was subjected to a relentless onslaught of Demons who, with the help of a High-Level Demon, ripped my limbs from my body.

Life #6:

Now knowing that I would be unable to get strong enough to exact revenge if I were alone, I once again rejected the help of the castle. Upon reaching one of the major cities of this world, I did everything in my power to enter the black market where slaves were being sold. Paying the appropriate fee for a slave that knew how to wield a weapon, I went to leave the Black Market.

Exiting the Black Market, I was met with a ton of guards who were also followed by a few royal guards. Taking me forcefully, I was tried and found for supporting the preposterous business that was slave selling. The punishment for committing such a heinous crime was hanging.

Life #7:

Knowing that I couldn't get a companion outside of the castle, I reluctantly accepted their help, but the butler who assisted me was someone different that Olin and even though he didn't have any prior combat experience, he got me just far enough to where I didn't need to worry about being mauled by a group of Demonic Demons.

As I continued to grow in strength, I finally got to the point to where I thought I could kill the King. Returning to the castle promptly, the two of us engaged in a duel, but the King's strength far surpassed what I knew, and he didn't hesitate to use dirty tricks, ending in my entire body being shredded by gusts of wind.

Life #8:

It then suddenly dawned on me that I could in fact align myself with the demons instead of the King. Nodding my head slowly, I once again built-up strength, but this time I head to the Demon King's Castle. Breaking past its defenses, I break into the throne room and my eyes nearly bulge out of my head when I find myself staring at twelve seats which each flowed into a thirteenth, a much more grandiose and sinister chair, where a being with black armor sat, streaming darkness from the orifices of his armor that pooled on the ground.

Kneeling to the overwhelming pressure that he exudes, I proposed my plan of alliance to kill the King, but in return I was only laughed in the face.

"Why would I align myself with someone who's committed so many sins against my race?"

Continuing his ceaseless laughter, a spear made of darkness suddenly forms in his hands and he sends it rocketing forward. Finding its way into my chest while I still kneel there in indignation, my vision fades.

Life #9:

When I woke, I determined that the Demon King's treatment to me fair since I had spent so much time removing his soldiers. So, as the only logical thought process, I decided that I would train myself by killing humans rather than Demonic Beasts. And it worked for a time, but I eventually was forced to be on the run consistently, eating whatever I could find, even scraps of garbage. But I stayed steadfast, for this might be the time in which I can get my longing revenge.

Entering the Demon King's Castle, I once again appear before the Twelve Apostles and the Demon King. Yet once again, upon asking for an alliance between the two of us, I received laughter in my face.

"Why would I align myself with someone who betrays his own race?"

Life #10:

This time, the indignation towards the Demon King stood. Why couldn't he understand that I wanted to get revenge on the King? It was so bizarre to me that he didn't understand what I was trying to accomplish. Well, now, there was someone else added onto the list of those I wished to get revenge against.

But I didn't have any way to drastically increase my strength to be on par to kill the King and the Demon King, it was simply impossible for all previous nine lives. So, this time, I decide to scour the continent, searching for anything that can help me to gain strength.

Along with finding items that could make me stronger, I found the land littered with hordes of dungeons which contained no shortage of loot and valuable items that possessed some sort of power within them to make me stronger. I tried to collect as many of these items as possible, but eventually the world will determine that I was no longer doing my job, therefore making me face something I had no opportunity to beat, a sentinel.

Life #11:

Gripping my hair in frustration, I finally accepted the cold, hard truth that this world and its people were against me and that to fight back against it I would have to use everything in my arsenal to win, learning and adapting to any situation. Rather than subjecting myself to just using a sword, I began to learn other weapons under Guff, spending longer than three years simply to get the basic level of understanding for each.

After those three years, I proceeded to travel to the useful dungeons and get their items that made me exponentially stronger. Being dressed up in these artifacts while having made sure I fulfilled the quota that the world will be required, I returned to the Kingdom, wanting to kill the one who started it all first.

The moment I entered the Castle though, I was approached by the King who had two enigmatic figures walking behind him. Not even talking for a moment, the King pulls out his staff and starts to fight against me. With my increase of strength, I managed to create a stalemate between the two of us, but the two figures next to him earlier weren't just for show and were equivalent in strength to the Demon King's Apostles, soon overpowering me and sending me to my doom.

Life #12:

I suppose that it made sense that the King had some soldiers who could evenly face off against the Demon King, but I was wondering how I'd never encountered them in the past. It must have been because I was too weak to handle the King by myself. But now that I'm reborn again, I proceeded to repeat my same actions from the past life, expecting that with an increase of understanding over every little thing, I could finally win.

But it appears that the King has a few more "Angels", as he calls them, than I originally believed, making them nine in number and the two which I had fought with before appeared to be the weakest of the "Angels". Subjugating me with their numbers, I was once again forced into the past.

Life #13:

After all this time, I finally decided that it would be wise to gain a few companions on my travels since it was clear to me that I could only be relieved of my life by overwhelming numbers. So, upon growing my strength, I went back to the slave market and purchased a slave. As well as that, I managed to get the one general of the Demon King to work under me. Increasing their strength to reasonable levels, I gave them a few artifacts and once again tried my luck against the King.

It was going extraordinarily well at first, and we had managed to kill several of the "Angels", but all of our hope disappeared when the dead bodies of the "Angels" rose once again after the King seemed to cast one of his God-given spells. Already being worn from the fight, the three of us were captured and I watched as my two loyal friends were tortured right in front of me before being tortured myself.

Life #14:

Waking up with a smile on my face, the screams of my comrades echoed continuously throughout my mind. Constantly forcing me to scream myself to be rid of them. Learning that nothing was ever going to be as simple as I originally believed, I subconsciously began to travel the world again, searching for something, anything that could help me.

After searching every corner of the continent, I approached the border of the continent and tried to leave to see if there was anything in the world that I had missed. As I go to walk over the bridge that's constructed to create a path between the two, my foot is repulsed backwards, sending my face straight into the ground. Trying the same thing again with my hands, the same thing happened. Finally learning that I was trapped in this place, I scrambled to start reading information on this world.

But alas, I chose too late to start studying this world and its laws, causing the Demonic Horde of Demons to fall atop me ten years since this life began.

Life #15:

'I Haven't Finished My Research Yet!' I complain in my head. Researching absolutely everything that I possibly can about this world and the laws that subsequently form because of such, I even forego making myself stronger just so I can know more.

Having consumed myself so much into the books, it finally came time for the King to step in and he immediately grabbed me and threw me outside the Castle, telling me that I needed to get stronger. And I of course followed his words because I realized something. If I'm stronger, then I can raid the dungeons, which means I can get money, which means I can buy even more books.

By the time that year ten started to approach, I found myself jittery and constantly laughing, unable to keep a completely coherent thought for a moment. But the thoughts of revenge still came through the most. And so, in my times of insanity, I deliriously returned to the Castle, found Caitlin, and tried to kill her. But my body had atrophied in my six months of seclusion, so Caitlin quickly pushed me off and took a knife from her cuff, plunging it directly into my chest. Unsurprisingly, the knife was poisoned. Causing me to foam at the mouth while my eyes plunged themselves into the back of my skull. Yet, even as I was dying, I began to laugh. I hated this world.

Life #16:

After 15 complete deaths that had come before this, my mind had finally taken all that it could and cracked under the pressure. When I woke up, demons began to appear in my vision, holding my bloodied body in their arms, stepping on my dead one, or even the screaming figures of my companions. Screaming out while constantly asking to escape from these nightmares, the King deduced that I was mentally insane and decided to get rid of me.

Life #17:

Being killed seemed to be the solution to removing the demons, but now, my mind was completely irreparable and so there I sat on the Throne Room floor, not moving an inch, and barely even breathing. The world passed me by, and I didn't make a single move, not even when hunger and thirst tried to make themselves prevalent. After not eating or drinking, I eventually passed.
