"Aveline is getting out, what do you want to say to her?" Adams asked as Dean drove the Tahoe towards the nearest military facility in Almara Island, an air force base.
After Mick got arrested, the court dropped all allegations on Aveline which meant he would be released from the military holding prison. Dean didn't sit quite well with the end result, but Adams wanted to keep his squad as intact as possible.
"Everybody's in, Dean," Adams added.
"Yeah, I know. However, there's no guarantee I'd trust her after what she had done," Dean said.
"Try to be more apologetic, perhaps, Dean. Girl knows nothing."
"Being ignant doesn't excuse you from being entirely guilty, sir."
"Fair enough."
Still, he still needed Aveline on his team or the patrol team wouldn't be complete. Dean didn't exactly want to have a stranger on his team either. He would have difficulty in trusting them, at least, with Aveline, he knew where he would draw the line. He knew how far she could trust Aveline, and he knew that her brother was pretty much at the bottom of the Atlantic.
To think that he was only human yesterday, last night bothered Dean a lot. He still couldn't think straight. Like it or not, something like this would eventually get caught, but when? Dean didn't have any idea about that.
Adams and Dean would pick Aveline up at the entrance of the military base. They only needed to wait while the MP would bring Aveline to the entrance of the air force base. It didn't take too long until a girl in a prison jumpsuit appeared at the entrance. Dean got out of the car.
Dean opened the back car door and Aveline entered the car. Dean closed the car door without saying any word and he sat down on the driver's seat and drove away from the entrance of the military base.
"I hate you, Dean."
"Feeling's mutual, Aveline," Dean answered without any tone.
He didn't feel any regret about putting Aveline in a prison jumpsuit, even though her role in his assassination was still questionable at best. For most of the part, she was not different from a paid informant, not something that Dean was entirely aware of.
'Something's off,' Myra uttered.
'Say what?' Myra suddenly appeared and Dean didn't know what happened. However, something was indeed odd. Aveline looked rather empty. Why would she look at the empty air like that?
'What happened with her, though?' Myra asked Dean.
'I put her in prison, no way she wouldn't be pissed in the first place, duh.'
'I only see that look on someone who has something to cover, and I think this is concerning you, too. All heads are looking to eat her, Dean,' Myra added.
'You're saying that I should help someone who just helped someone that wanted to kill me? Thank fucking you, but hell no,' Dean stood corrected on his stance.
'We need to watch and see, then.' Myra added.
'Yeah, I know,' Dean listened.
Hopefully, right now, Dean could put Aveline into testifying in the court. After that, he would be hopeful that their friendships might be able to continue as if nothing happened. Dean would be pretty much in the right state of mind if that would be the case.
After all, there was something else entirely that he wanted to know. Like it or not, he really wanted whether there was someone else besides Mick, or was it just a solo operation that operated without anyone's supervision but Mick? If it was the first case, then it would be a very big can of worm.
The last thing that Dean wanted to do was go on a senseless killing spree to search for the real troublemaker. Dean could get bloody if he wanted to with a comparable skill set of that of a special force. He would do whatever it takes to put Mick in his slammer.
Dean and Adams brought Aveline to the front of her dormitory. Scarlet was waiting for her with a very very grim face as if she was hating her for it. Well, it was what she got for being involved in a murder attempt.
"C'mon, Scarlet's waiting, and I'm sure she had a lot of questions," Dean intimidated.
Aveline got out of the car while still in her orange prison jumpsuit. The moment Aveline got out of the car, Scarlet immediately slapped her in the face. Dean didn't know what was going on between those two, but it was definitely something about her SWAT ambush.
Dean entered Adams' Tahoe again. Even from the window of the car, it was evident that Scarlet was pissed tenfold at Aveline. She literally beat Aveline with her own fist. He blamed everything on her, especially after the SWAT team came after her. Adams wanted to stop the fight, but Dean prevented him.
"No, we don't have any responsibility for that, sir."
"You nuts? That's my squad member."
"Sir, that person is the same person that almost got two of your squad members killed," Dean answered.
"Dean, I won't cover your backs on this one," Adams angrily sighed as Dean drove the Tahoe away from the dormitory.
Dean drove the car to the parking garage located right near his dormitory. Adams always parked his car there, and he always carried the car key with him so Dean wouldn't be able to use it. Adams slammed his car door very hard to the point that the car shook.
Dean gave back the car key to Adams. Adams angrily walked out of the car park. Of course, Aveline was still his squad member, but to return her to society would be quite a task for Aveline herself.
He didn't know it for now, but he would know later that getting the testimony 16 days from now might be harder than Dean expected. Especially, since he wasn't aware of the implication of Aveline's own action to him would immediately take effect.
