Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine: "Ethereal"

Almost

"What do you mean by almost?" Lucy demanded from Bree.

"She meant almost" Lucas answered and proceeded to summarize to the backseat occupants the story Bree had once told him

"Bree was in the locker room, changing out of her karate uniform when Louisa walked in and also removed her clothes, they were the only ones in the locker room Bree ignored her existence, until the lights in the room went off, Bree heard the footsteps of Louisa coming towards her so she skillfully walked away to the door but the door wouldn't open up, it was locked from the outside, during her short struggle with the door, Louisa had made it to where she stood and snaked a hand around her waist"

"But Bree shouldn't be wearing any clothes as she was changing right?" Lucy interrupted to ask.

Lucas turned and gave her a look then continued " she of course wasn't wearing anything other than her bra, so Louisa's hand came in contact with her soft beautiful skin" he gave Bree a look.

Bree turned her head and gave a small laugh to what Lucas had spouted

"Fuck you" she flipped him off.

"Well…" Lucas continued "Bree was scared of hurting her that was why she didn't beat the crap out of Louisa, well, she was on her last straw until yours truly saved the day, I saw the locker room locked when I came to check up on what was taking Bree an eternity to change I met the locker room bolted so I opened it and saw her cornering Bree".

"Why didn't you hit her?" Andrea asked, but the question she wanted to ask was "did she kiss you?"

"Why would I hit her, she's weaker the i am, and if she had gone further I would have just pushed her away, no point in resulting to violence" Bree said that about Louisa, but few hours ago she almost resulted to violence with Charles, even if someone reasoned with their toes they would still realize that Bree had a soft tiny spot towards Louisa. And tiny things could get bigger.

"Did she ever kiss you?" Lucy, to the relief of Andrea, asked "Have you ever kissed someone?" She added

"Of course she had, what do you think of Bree, a saint?" Lucas retorted

"Oh, who was your first kiss?" Andrea asked, trying to seem as negligent as ever, Bree gave her a look through the mirror of the car.

"Yours sincerely" Lucas answered with a smug look.

"You people have shared a kiss?" Lucy asked stupefied while Andrea was simply thunderstruck.

"Of course, what kind of best friends haven't kissed each other?" Lucas asked rhetorically with a smug expression.

"You're so close but didn't realize that your best friend was a lesbian" Andrea gave a comeback.

"Not all of us have a crush on her like you do" and that sealed Andrea's mouth shut.

"There's no point in arguing with you dimwit over this" Andrea cursed internally.

For the rest of the drive home, nobody uttered a word.

Lucas felt satisfied that he had shut Andrea up with the words she hated to hear the most, he knew what Andrea felt towards his best friend was nothing more than platonic affection, but what Andrea had said actually stung him a little, the friendship he had with Bree, was it spurious on her side and fictitious on his own that he couldn't tell?

While all these thoughts ran through his mind, not once did his expression betray him, on the face of it, he looked rather carefree and nonchalant, nobody could guess he was going through a storm in his heart.

"Why are you so inscrutable even to me?"

When Bree pulled over in the garage of the house, she held Lucas back from alighting the car and waited till Andrea and Lucy went into the house.

"Are you mad at me?" Bree asked immediately Andrea walked into the house.

"Why should I be mad at you?" Lucas questioned back.

"You've been quiet," Bree said.

"You're not the only thing running through my mind, love" Lucas said with a smile. His mood was elevated after he heard Bree's question, maybe their friendship wasn't so insincere on her side, she even guessed that something was troubling him.

But then it could also mean that he gave away too much information about himself to her and she could be able to guess his mood, even an idiot thinking with his toes would be able to cognize that something was up with the amount of personal information he had left out.

His happy mood was sullied once more.

Bree noticed his drastic change in mood from sad to happy then to sad again "I didn't tell you because I thought you would feel different about me, you never expressed your opinions on homosexuality before, so I thought you were an homophobe" she watched his eyes dart to hers "I was scared so, I became meticulous in the act of not giving anything away, until this morning, I couldn't lie to you anymore"

Lucas took a deep breath and smiled "it's okay, well, now you know I actually am an ally, I had no particular emotion towards it before neither negative or positive, but if my best friend is a lesbian then I'll be the biggest ally the world has ever known"

The corner of Bree's lips curved up and a small round depression on her cheeks appeared. "That means so much to me" Lucas pulled her in for a hug.

"We're going to a party" Lucy informed her mother who was busy in the kitchen. The slim, blonde, fair woman turned around from the food she was cooking and stared at her daring daughter.

"What language was that?" She asked "and what are you wearing?"

Lucy stared down at the ripped shorts she had on and gave her mother a questioning look, her mother, Becca returned it "Mom, it's just some casual clothes for a casual party"

"A casual party, dressed like that? Lucy you look like an underpaid sex worker" Becca insulted

"Call me whatever, Bree is also going" Lucy knew if she said that, her mother would let them leave, it never failed, Becca's trust in Bree was insuperable.

"That's a lie" Becca said

"It's true Becca, I'm also going to the party" Bree proved Lucy's words to be true, Becca stared back at Lucy who was giving her an accomplished grin, the urge to hit a frying pan on Lucy's face surfaced in her thoughts.

"Why do you suddenly want to go to a party?" Becca questioned Bree

"It's our senior year at high school, one party couldn't possibly hurt" Bree shrugged.

"Fine, then you guys can go, but I expect you back before 2am" Becca ordered.

"Sure" Bree affirmed after checking the time "but Lucy won't be leaving dressed like that"

"Alright alright, as long as we're going to the party, I don't care what I wear, I can even make do with a sack, just take me out" Lucy joked as she walked back into her room

Andrea walked into the kitchen, she wore a simple short dress and a denim jacket over it, but her black long hair cascaded down her shoulders in wavy curls, her lips were more colourful than before and her features were a little more pronounced, for a minute Bree was taken aback.

"Yo yo yo!" Lucas announced his entrance, upon seeing each other, Andrea and Lucas took a step back to pore over each other in silence for some seconds before they both rained compliments on each other.

"What the fuck! You should be arrested, looking this hot should be a crime"

"I am literally blinded by your beauty"

"How are you allowed to look this handsome"

"You are ethereal I tell you, ethereal"

"You're like a dream, so unreal, your beauty is unreal, are you some kind of hot cartoon character?"

"You're slaying with your beauty, you fucking murderer"

"ENOUGH" Lucy yelled out to stop them. "We know you both look good, but can we leave please?"

Bree pulled over in front of a huge house, there were teenagers loitering everywhere around the house, there were disposable cups and empty bottles of alcohol all around the place. The house, without this trash, was exceptionally colossal, it was practically covered in lights, and trees were planted around the lawn in an artistic style.

"As expected of a student in Royal High" Lucas said as he alighted from the car.

"Now I'm having second thoughts" Andrea murmured then tugged her jacket to cover more than it could.

Strangely the teenagers who loitered around the house suddenly dispersed, not even their shadows could be seen, the cold wind blew gently, giving the atmosphere an eerie feeling, probably scared by the sudden silence of the night, Lucas jogged to the front door and rang the doorbell, they waited for some seconds before the door was opened to them.

They were welcomed with darkness and silence, there were vague mirages but none of them couldn't decipher what those mirages could be.

Well, none except Bree.
