Chapter 1 - The mermaids

The mermaids. What were they?

They swim and float around aimlessly, but who are we to judge? We can't say for sure what they're doing, but sometimes, even we can see the pure determination in their eyes.

[People are shocked to see the clear determination in this particular mermaids' eyes.

Some claim that it is staged and that this is just to earn some easy money from gullible people. However, some respectfully disagree and say that mermaids are mysterious, and that there is more to them that we thought.]

The reporter let out a deep breath after saying such a long line. He looked up to the ceiling, pretending that it was the beautiful clear blue sky and sighed.

[This is purely my opinion and is not to be taken as a fact and true information.

I think that it is arrogant for us to assume that mermaids don't feel anything and have no purpose in life. We have repeatedly been shown that they are smart, maybe even more so than us. Is having emotions, goals and complex thoughts that far off and hard to believe?

That is all for now. We're taking a short break and resuming with sports, lead by Mr Thomas soon. Thank you, and have a nice day.]

The reporter slumped into his comfortable chair. He covered his face and let out a long groan.

"What's wrong, Jeremy?", a young woman asked him, seemingly concerned.

"Nothing, it's just- You think the public's gonna accept that? Won't some of them send death threats to me?"

"Woah there, calm down now. They can't threaten to kill you and send you death threats just because you stated your opinion, that's crazy! I'm sure you'll be fine, alright?"

"Firstly, threatening to kill me and sending me death threats is basically the same thing. Second, don't tell me you don't believe that it might happen. Susan, you've been here long enough to know how some people are."

Susan clicked her tongue. She frowned slightly.

"Shut it, I don't care if it's the same thing or not. It's slightly different to me, anyway. Also, I know how people are but I still don't think they'd take it that far. I mean, you're the nicest and people love you, so, I doubt it."

He sighed and spun around in his 'spinnable chair', as he would call it.
