Benjamin followed the man, of course. There was a possibility that his mother was not there and was just an ambush. But then, what did he have to lose? Judith wasn't there anymore, most of the furniture wasn't either, which could indicate that either she's gone or they've taken her away and she could very well be dead. He didn't want to think about that possibility, but that didn't cancel it out just because he wanted to, did it?
"Mr Dankworth, we've been waiting a lot for you. But we didn't know how to find you." The man who introduced himself as Edgar spoke, not looking back, just turning his head so that Benjamin could see part of his face over his shoulder.
Benjamin saw some houses in the distance, one apart from the other and imagined that one of them was that man's. They didn't stop at any of them.
