Chapter 16 - Celeste's Past (Part 1)

"What happened to Brandon? Is he still looking for Yael and Vera's daughter?" Brandon's father, Orpheus, stated that he is now speaking with his wife, Celeste, he has recently come from their main orphanage and has taken care of a number of tasks in order for them to adopt additional children who would be committed to their own sake.

He sat down on the sofa next to his wife after taking off his tie. Later, their assistance found him with booze, which he instantly consumed; he used to drink alcohol anytime he had a problem or was experiencing mental turmoil. When he completed a glass of wine provided to him by their servant, he turned to face his wife Celeste, who was engrossed in a magazine and appeared to have missed his query about their son.

"Did you hear what I said regarding him finding the woman I am searching for?" Celeste instantly turned at him as she heard her husband's voice raise, as if influenced by the strong wine he had drank; she sounded apprehensive and unsure what to say to Orpheus, as nothing had been declared yet by her son about Yael and Vera's daughter. In fact, she avoids hearing such questions since he knows Orpheus would become enraged with their son if he does not discover yet what he is seeking for.

Celeste inhaled deeply before turning to face her husband, pausing to examine his flawless face, sharp nose, and red lips for a few moments before responding to its query.

"Brandon hasn't contacted me yet, but I believe he's already doing everything he can to track down our race's opponent." Celeste stated that, her son has not called her since yesterday, and she is very concerned about it. She also asserted that he never fails to contact her mother every day, so she is further surprised at the potential danger looming over his son, especially since only their opponents, the wolves, were around.

Celeste put down the magazine she was reading and stared at her husband with tears in her eyes. She had been concerned about Brandon previously, but she did not express it to her husband because she was afraid she would remember what she had ordered for Brandon in comparison to the danger hiding within.

"Are you even concerned about your son's safety? You are much more concerned if he has already discovered the adversary of our race, rather than inquiring about his condition." When Celeste stated that, her husband became silent and proceeded to sip wine while looking away and seemed to be profoundly thinking.

Orpheus' vision was practically dark as he heard the final word Celeste say, maybe because he didn't like what his wife said. Because what occurred to him was that her wife seemed to doubt their son's potential to lead their group for generations to come, and what Orpheus most loathed of all was indeed the weak and coward, Brandon grew up full of courage and excellent at just about everything his father was proud of.

"Your son is no longer a toddler, our race's blood flows through him; no vampire is weak as well as stupid, Celeste. Therefore I asked him to do the same, knowing that if he took over from me, he'd be in for much more difficulties. Do not underestimate the potential of our race's next leader." Orpheus' voice had been so irritated that he was able to let go of his glass of wine before letting go of those statements. Celeste nearly refused to sit down because of her husband's change of mood, fearing that he would hurt her, she knew firsthand that their race was more important to Orpheus, and he refused to accept loss in anything.

"The only thing I can think of is that you should have pity for towards your son in some way, so he will sense that you care about him and that whatever transpires to him." Orpheus would look at Celeste as if he were a murderer who had killed many people and was known over the universe as a humiliation if he looked at her, Celeste says just saying those words makes her try to hide and battle the terror she has for her own spouse. However, it appeared as though the man had never been calmer.

"We are vampires, not ordinary stupid people, Celeste, so don't pretend like we are ridiculous soft-hearted individuals. What a shame you said it, notably when our fellow races heard about it." Orpheus exclaimed as he rose from his seat, his voice filled with bewilderment and irritation at his wife's statements, which were incompatible with their race.

Despite the fact that their race has never been seen as compassionate or considerate, their personal safety and reputation were more important to them. In actuality, there are many more decent individuals in the group of Werewolves; very few of their race's members have a terrible character since their kindness begins with their group's leader. The vampire leaders' avarice, wickedness, and arrogance caused the conflict in their group to begin. As a result, the wolves were compelled to battle for their own and their loved ones' protection.

"We are not mortal, but I believe we are still human; we have many characteristics similar with ordinary people on this planet—"

But, as soon as Orpheus begun, he couldn't finish what he intended to say, and his booming voice silenced Celeste.

Celeste was nearly able to stand up as she spoke those words, and she was also taken away by her feelings, and she didn't care about what happened to her in those moments. Nevertheless, as soon as Orpheus begun, he couldn't finish what he intended to say, and his booming voice silenced Celeste.

"What you say is foolishness; what comes out of your lips is blasphemy, don't you realize that? You don't appear to be the daughter of a previous vampire king, do you?" Orpheus shouted, interrupting his wife, since when he mentioned that Celeste's tears were practically dripping, she remembered how her father planned to marry her to Orpheus so that he would control the vampires instead of her, since her father considered her weak and worthless apart from the reason the she is a woman.

"I don't want us to talk about my father, you should not include him since he is not a part of our discourse." Celeste turned around to leave, avoiding the discussion because she didn't want to recall the past, she did not want to remember the mortal she loved so much and she would admit to this day she still loves him.

She had been lying to herself for a long time, but now that the topic had been brought up again, he was still pained by what had transpired. She will acknowledge that she is still unable to accept it.

"Is it because you can only actually remember falling in love with a mortal? Your father no longer considers you his daughter since you just broke one of our race's most important commandments." Orpheus responded with a grin, knowing that Celeste didn't want to bring the past back, but he also knew that he still loved him; he couldn't say it, but he could see it in her eyes, especially on how he would protect the guy.

"I said I didn't want to talk about that thing! He's dead, he's gone, and you are the one who murdered him! As a conclusion, there's no reason to speak about him again." Celeste screamed, tears streaming down her face, that even she comes from a horrible family it could not really disguise her goodness and compassion. So his father thought he was weak because he had a human heart, and because it was with a man he met, he learned how to love like a normal person.

"You can't change the past, Celeste, although you must be appreciative, that I still accept you." Orpheus expressed his displeasure with what he had heard, and no matter what Celeste said, he did not regret the killing he had committed on that mortal simply so that he would inherit all of the power when he wedded Celeste.

"All I have to thank is the point where Brandon entered my life, and other than that, I don't have anything more to say." Celeste stated strongly while looking as though she despised Orpheus. Since she mentioned that the veins in Orpheus' throat had almost burst out due to his rage, his eyes were becoming fire, which might be interpreted as a sign that he was about to change form due to his severe anger.

He was about to speak again but he stopped when he heard a familiar voice causing the color of his eyes to return to normal and he calmed down somehow.

"Are you in a fight?" Celeste's father, Don Zacharias, stated he was seventy-five years old but could still acquire strength all throughout his body, but he couldn't walk properly without the use of a walking stick. He eventually arrived to Orpheus' house, and his eyes told them what was going on; they were unaware that his car had come, that the old guy had entered their home, and that they could hear their dispute.

"Papa!" (Father!) Orpheus exclaimed and shook hands with the elderly man, attempting to dissipate his anger so that Don Zacharias would not realize Celeste and he were unwell, since this would jeopardize his leadership of their whole clan.
