Orion POV
The anger soared through me as I slapped the door of the games' room behind me. What in the hell was I thinking? She just knows how to make everything so much harder for me: always. It was a moment of weakness and I assured myself it wouldn't happen again.
You wanted to mark her more than I did. I huffed, shutting my wolf out before stumbling into Sebastian: one of the many people I was trying to avoid.
"Have you seen my sister?" I shook my head trying to walk past him. But he stopped me by putting his hand on my shoulder.
"What's up with you? Ever since the mating ball, you've been distant, man." I rolled my eyes, not in the mood for some girl talk with my best friend.
"Nothing is up." I shrugged off his hand. "I've got shit on my mind; you know that."
He nodded his head, told me Sienna was sitting in my car and walked away looking for Esmerelda.
Goddess that Esmerelda. She was enchanting in so many ways. She was stunning, beautiful, strong but not an alpha. She was right: I was a prideful bastard. Maybe I could change that, but I couldn't change what my parents would think of her. They love Sienna; she is the perfect choice of the Luna of my pack. She would be a great mother, wife, and protector to the whole pack.
How can I choose between them? This is completely impossible.
I stumbled back to the car where Sienna was looking incredibly angry. Her brows were furrowed, and her arms crossed her chest.
"What's wrong, Sienna?" The words spilt out my mouth as if I actually cared.
"We best get home. Your father called me with some disturbing news."
I sobered up at the mention of my father and quickly started up the engine, quickening the speed as we paced down the road towards the packhouse.
The local station connected to the car and began spitting out all the normal human news before talking about werewolves.
"Future Alpha, Orion, was caught having a little romp at a house party this evening with his fiancé, Sienna, pictured in the next room."
I was quick to switch it off whilst Sienna glared daggers into my eyes. I saw out the corner of my eye her mouth open to give me another one of her famous lectures.
"Don't give me that shit, Sienna. I don't need that when I know I will get it from my father later on." I warned her as I began to speed up.
She shut her trap swiftly before turning to stare out the window. We got closer to the packhouse and my heart pounded against my ribcage, knowing things would instantly get worse when I walked through the doors. Millions of excuses ran through my head trying to pick one that wouldn't lead to a shouting match between my father and me.
As I turned off the engine, I saw the front door open with the butler standing there waiting for me to come inside. Well, the plan of slipping through the house unnoticed wasn't going to happen. I turned to Sienna and saw her face drooping.
"What? Say whatever you're going to say now instead of in front of my father."
"This isn't just going to ruin your life but Esme's as well. Think about that before you blame her for all of this." She got out of the car leaving me stuck to my seat like glue.
My hands squeezed the steering wheel over and over again as I took several deep breaths. I watched Sienna walk into the house and be led straight into my father's office; the only light in the house was coming from his window.
I took one final breath before opening the door of the car and walking towards the house. The door was swiftly shut behind me as I walked further inside. I glanced up at the portraits of Alphas and their Lunas close by their side. I thought of how many of them would actually be their mates and how many had to make that sacrifice to be with someone of ranking rather than destined to be theirs. If it was supposed to happen, why was I mated with Esmerelda? Surely the moon goddess would know more than us, simple mortals.
The long corridor came to an end, and I heard my father's stern voice vibrating through the tall, tanned door as he spoke to Sienna. I knocked and I was called inside. Sienna was sat looking at the floor as my father stood over her. As usual, my mother was gone.
"Ah finally, sit down." His rough voice scraped across my skin. But I did as he said.
He slammed down a folder onto the desk in front of me and pictures scattered out. I reached out, picking them up seeing Esmerelda and myself in the games' room of her house.
He sat down in his tall chair and sipped some whiskey letting me stew in his gaze.
"Care to explain what these are?" I looked at them again, seeing another one with Sienna sitting on the sofa alone, knowing the newspapers would have a field day with them in the morning.
"How did they get here so quickly?" I muttered to myself thinking it only happened mere hours ago.
"Does that really matter right now, Orion? Tell me who she is so I can deal with the problem."
"She is not a problem. I came onto her."
"Well, that's not how the papers will write it in the morning." He swung the local newspaper onto the desk: 'Desperate girl comes onto Alpha'. I scoffed pushing it back at him and standing up turning away from him.
"Anything you'd like to add, Sienna?" Father spoke to her. I turned and saw her shake her head. My father told her she could go and I watched her sprint out of the room, knowing what was going to happen next.
I watched the door shut behind her. To get my attention, Father slammed his hand down on the desk.
"Now, boy. What were you thinking?" His voice expanded to be the size of all my fears rolled together.
"It was a mistake, okay? I'm sorry." I spoke, trying to hide my fear.
"You're right it was a mistake. Something that will never happen again. You are such a disgrace to this family. You always have been. Just fucking get out." He sat down in his chair and acted like I didn't exist as he shuffled the papers around on it.
I nodded my head and left swiftly, shutting the door behind me. With a sigh of relief, I made my way up to my room.
The house was deathly quiet as the anger of my father washed over the house like a deadly tsunami.
As I reached my room, Sienna was sitting on the bed. Her face was stained with tears and guilt began to eat me up.
"Did you tell him?" I shook my head.
I watched as she wiped her eyes before getting up and walking towards me to leave.
Before she left, I whispered, "This was not what I wanted to happen. I was trying to protect her from my father."
Sienna scoffed, "Orion, you're not capable of protecting anyone but yourself. I had to watch my mate die because of your father. But I am here, trying to do my part for my pack. Just because you're in line for the throne doesn't mean you deserve it."
She walked away slowly, as tears began falling from her eyes again.
Was she right? Did I not deserve to be the Alpha?
