Mallin knocked on the door to one of the rooms at an inn near the Branch of Logic, but no one answered. He was certain this was the right one.
Two men and a woman squeezed behind him to pass down the narrow hallway toward another room, laughing and flirting with each the whole time. One of the men offered a quick smile when he accidentally bumped into Mallin with his travel bag.
His eyes moved over Mallin's uniform and his smile brightened. "Sorry about that, good Brother. Big day today…"
Mallin turned his face away. He wasn't so sure anymore that the word good applied to him.
The streets had been impossibly crowded on his walk here, full of people clamoring at the chance to witness such an important ceremony and have a little fun afterwards. For some reason, they all kept smiling at him as if they'd never seen a priest of the Order before.
