After Nicasi left with reassurances that he would check on the novices for her, Loma decided to follow his advice and take the rest of the evening for herself. Her heart felt as light as a paper lantern, and not even the weight of her father's poison could drag it down.
When she asked him about what had happened at the village, Nicasi had told her they ran into some difficulties with the Creature, but when she pressed him for details, he promised everything was under control now and that Alaric would fill her in later.
Tonight was for celebration, not worry.
His words niggled at the back of her mind, but she trusted him. And she really did want to make tonight special for Alaric.
Loma went to her closet and pulled out a new dress that she'd bought on a whim on a recent shopping trip with Mara. She'd yet to wear it because it wasn't exactly something that was appropriate for wrangling novices and scouring the archives for nonsense.
