"Why are *you* here is the better question. We were perfectly fine without you, and you interrupted Rowan's story." Wren rolled his eyes at Alaric.
"I came to ask Nicasi if he could check on Loma in the next day or two."
"What's wrong with Loma?" Rowan's familiar anxiety over his sister flickered to life again.
Alaric shook his head, his lips drawn tight with worry. "She's been feeling ill more than usual. Mostly nausea and fatigue, but it seems to be getting worse. She bites my head off any time I bring it up. I don't know what to do."
"Well, the healer is less annoying and *much* smarter than you are. If there is something to be done, he will figure it out. I plan on talking to my father about her, too. He owes me for a lifetime of misery." Wren stood up and glanced at Rowan. "Don't start the story again until I get back. And *don't* let Alaric take my seat."
The air around him blurred as he vanished into the Shadows.
