When Kit held their hand out for the garnet-seed, Rowan shook his head.
"I have to keep touching it. It's the only reason I'm still awake." He released a long, shaky breath and glanced at Nicasi. "I'm so tired. And the poison…hurts."
Maybe the adept was right. Maybe it was okay to admit that he was suffering. In some way it felt like a relief for Rowan to say it out loud.
"I can do my work with you holding it," Kit said gently. "And don't worry…I'll leave Wren's energy in tact."
Not caring anymore that they were all watching him, Rowan pressed the soul-seed to his lips, clinging briefly to the kiss of Wren's magic before letting the gem settle in the palm of his hand.
Kit winked at him. "It will be worth it. You'll see. Now…I'm thinking you need something you can wield with more precision than if it were just rattling around in your locket. I know…how about a ring."
